Chinese Cresteds are great companions
According to the American Kennel Club, the Chinese Crested is: "A fine-boned, elegant toy dog that craves human companionship, the Crested comes in two varieties. The Hairless has soft, silky hair on its head (crest), tail (plume) and feet (socks). Wherever the body is hairless the skin is soft and smooth. The Powderpuff is entirely covered with a double soft, straight coat. The two types often come from the same litter. Any color or combination of colors is allowed.
"It is believed that Chinese mariners sailed with this breed - believed to have evolved from African hairless dogs - on board. During the time of the Chinese plagues, hairless dogs were stowed aboard ships to hunt vermin. By the mid-nineteenth century, Cresteds began appearing in European art, and entries of the breed in American dog shows began in the late 1800s."

- The club's goal is "To encourage and promote the responsible breeding of pure-bred Chinese Cresteds and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection, in accordance with the standards for the breed. To do all in our power to protect and advance the interests of the breed and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience trials and other events."
- Crest Care - Chinese Crested Dog Rescue
- We are a group of individuals living across the United States and Canada, whose goals are to preserve and protect Chinese Cresteds in need. We provide vetting, transportation, and foster homes for each dog in need, until he or she can be carefully matched to an approved home. We provide education about the breed to private individuals interested in adopting, and to shelters as well, in an effort to help ensure the integrity of the breed as a whole. We are involved in Crest-Care, Inc. for no other reason than our concern for Chinese Cresteds in need. We realize our limitations in that we cannot save them all, but working together, we help those we can. We work within the framework of local and civil laws, in order to protect both dogs and all parties concerned.
