Chloe Grace Moretz: Actress and Young Star on the Rise

Acting came about due to a trickle-down effect in Chloe's family. She has four older brothers - yikes! - and one, Trevor, headed up to New York to attend a a professional performing arts school. Since he was just a teen, mom came too. And since Chloe was just a little girl, she came with mom. All of which served to whet Chloe's appetite for acting.

The family headed to Hollywood two years later and Chloe's movie career began with Trevor serving as her acting coach and chaperone when their parents can't be there.

Chloe actually started out with television roles, her first being as Violet in The Guardian. (I barely remember that show.) But she seems to have been made for the big screen with her first movie role coming in 2005 as Molly in Heart of the Beholder. The role that made her famous also released that year - a remake of The Amityville Horror in which she was cast as Chelsea "Missy" Lutz.

There were rumors that Chloe was up for the role of Primrose in the Hunger Games movies, but nope. However, she will be taking on the role of Emily Strange. I can see her as Emily, but not with dark hair. Should be interesting.

Chloe took home two popcorn statues at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards - Biggest Badass Star for her work as 'Hit Girl' in Kick-Ass and Best Breakout Star for Kick-Ass and Let Me In. They were among several recognitions she received for those two movies, including an Empire Award for Best Newcomer and nominations for Best Actor from the Broadcast Film Critics Association and others.

I don't watch a lot of television and I certainly stay away from horror movies, so Kick-Ass was the first thing I ever saw Chloe in. Yes, it's a mildly disturbed to watch her play a child _so_ not being a child but totally loved her. She was far more Kick-Ass than Kick-Ass ever will be. Ever.

Hit-Girl was definitely the kind of role where a supporting player has the chance to overshadow the star, which is just what Chloe did. She was completely believable as a foul-mouthed nine-year-old who won't bat an eye at putting a bullet through yours.

And frankly, I just love her superhero costume. Purple hair for the win!

Moretz trained with Jackie Chan's stunt crew for three months prior to filming Kick-Ass and did most of her own stunts while filming on location.

Named her dog Fuller after The Amityville Horror (2005) producer Bradley Fuller, and her dog Missy after her character Chelsea "Missy" Lutz.
