Brown & Blue - Hot Colors For 2012 Weddings

The popularity of a chocolate brown and aqua blue colored wedding has been growing in the past few years and it is one of the most popular choices in 2012. The blue color that gets combined with chocolate brown can vary from aqua blue to robins egg, light, and turquoise blue. No matter what you might call that particular hue of blue, you should be able to find plenty of wedding attire, ceremony items and reception supplies that will tie in perfectly with your color scheme. Brides love the combination of the earthy brown tones with the cool rich blue tones that can create an elegant and rich look at their wedding.

In this lens, I've tried to give you some tips, ideas and resources where you can find the hottest and most popular wedding items in the chocolate brown and aqua blue color scheme.

Inspiration Board

Great examples of how to tie the color scheme into everything!

One of the first things that got me to investigate the popularity of the chocolate brown and blue color scheme was this inspiration board that I saw at My Personal Artist. This montage of photos truly is an inspiration with examples of just about everything you can imagine needing for a wedding including the reception decor, wedding aisle runner, bridesmaid dresses, the stunning cake, wedding favors and more. Use some of these ideas to spark your own creativity and you are sure to have one of the best weddings ever!

Wedding Planning Books from Amazon

Planning your big day takes an inordinate amount of organization so beyond using online resources, consider buying some workbooks and wedding planning books. Here are just a few of my favorites....

Bridesmaid Dresses & Flowers

So many styles to choose from!

Bring your wedding colors to the ceremony through the bridesmaid dresses. In the photograph above, I've shown just some of the many bridesmaid dresses available on the market today. My biggest tip and advice when it comes to the dresses is to be sure to get color swatches...especially for the blue color which can vary greatly from vendor to vendor. In addition, every computer monitor displays the same color differently so it is likely that the swatch will not exactly match the color you are expecting if you selected it online.

One of my favorite looks in this color palette are strapless chocolate brown dresses that are accented with blue sashes. The same blue colored sash can be used around the flower girl dresses which are either white or ivory to match the bride. The great thing about brown dresses is that you can use white or light coral colored flowers for your bridesmaid and then the bride can carry a white and blue bouquet. The blue looks stunning against the white backdrop of a bridal gown.

When choosing flowers for the bridal party, you will need to be a bit creative because the traditional flowers such as roses, calla lilies, carnations, gerbera daisies, etc are not available in any sort of blue colors. You can get around this problem by using accessories such as blue organza and ribbons. Just add those blue touches to traditional white flowers for a fantastic look.

Brown & Blue Wedding Invitations

Choose one to match your personality!

Give your guests a taste of the celebration to come by selecting a chocolate brown and aqua blue invitation which will introduce your color palette and style. And when it comes to stationery and other paper products such as the rehearsal dinner itinerary, wedding ceremony programs, or cocktail napkins, be sure to carry through the same hues for a cohesive feel for the entire celebration. If possible, use the same fonts and type color on the same colored background as the wedding invitations.

When searching online for wedding invitations in this color palette, I found the largest selection and most diverse designs at Invitation Consultants. The smaller montage of photos shown above are just a FEW of the mocha brown and blue wedding invitations and related stationery that they offer. Modern Girl invitations also had several designs with a blue and brown color scheme.

Brown & Aqua Wedding Accessories

Create a cohesive look at your wedding!

Many online and local wedding shops offer a wide array of brown wedding accessories such as those shown above with an aqua blue and chocolate brown color palette. I have seen other collections that have a more turquoise blue color scheme (instead of aqua blue) and solid mocha brown collections that would go with any color blue that you may have chosen for your particular wedding. Whatever your final color scheme (aqua, turquoise, robin egg or light blue), wedding accessory sets are great because all of the items such as the flower girl basket, ring bearer pillow, guest book, etc will be perfectly coordinated for you.

Reception Decor Ideas

Beautiful reception decor!

Create a stunning display in your reception area by using brown table covers and aqua blue custom chair sashes as shown in the photos above. Use an array of both tall and short floral arrangements accented by candles and lights to create an intimate feel in your reception area. Beautiful tall vases with brown or painted blue willow branches among blue and white flowers look gorgeous as centerpieces on the reception tables.

Centerpiece Inspiration

Blue Hydrangeas are gorgeous!

When it comes to blue flowers, the choices are limited. My favorite option is hydrangeas as the flowers have a lovely color and the flowers last a long time. As shown in the photos, you can create either low or tall displays of hydrangeas by combining the round mop-heads with some other taller flowers such as calla lilies or orchids. The individual flowers of hydrangeas can also be trimmed down to produce boutonnieres, and flowers for the flower girls and even ribbon-wrapped around the stems to form a lovely bouquet for the bride.

If blue hydrangeas are not readily available in your area, some other blue flower choices include delphiniums, violet blue veronica, violet blue statice which is more of a filler flower, and sea holly. Delphiniums are a particularly good choice for tall wedding reception centerpiece arrangements and they come in a wide range of blue colors from light to darker blue.

Chocolate Brown & Blue Wedding Cake Ideas

The cake takes center stage!

What I love about the cake photo below is that it displays a diverse collection ranging from modern to truly classic cakes. And can't think of a better place to show-off the brown and blue color scheme at the reception than through the wedding cake itself. As shown in the below photos, a professional cake designer can create extraordinarily beautiful cakes that incorporate your wedding color scheme into the mix through the use of ribbon and icing/fondant colors.

If you are a true traditionalist when it comes to the cake, you can still go with a white or ivory cake, but just add simple accents of blue, brown or a combination of both colors around the base of each cake tier. Or consider a clever wedding cake topper that incorporates your personality.

Chocolate & Blue Wedding Favor Ideas

As I mentioned above, aqua and turquoise mean different things to different vendors so if you are trying to match any blue favor boxes or ribbon to the rest of your wedding color scheme, order samples. I can not stress this enough!!!

When it comes to brown wedding favors, you have several options such as ordering pre-made and assembled favors that are ready to hand directly to guests or making them yourself to create a unique one-of-a-kind gift. As shown in the photograph above, the brown and blue color scheme can be brought into the mix many ways, but one of the easiest is through the use of brown and blue favor boxes or ribbon. You can also find brown candies such as M & M's and blue ones such as Jordan almonds to fill the gift boxes. Candle favors with a blue color scheme are another great option and just a few selections are shown in the photo. Finally, personalized wedding favors are an extra special gift for guests. Put your names and wedding date on chocolate bars or mint tins that also incorporate your color scheme.
