A Delicious Selection of Chocolate Cocktails
These cocktails will entrance everyone who loves the creamy taste of chocolate....with the added buzz of alcohol! I'm known for a couple of loves (besides family of course) and they are chocolate and cocktails so combining the two was bound to happen. When I'm asked to mix a cocktail for someone the first thing I do is ask whether they like chocolate!!!!

Let's start with the Chocolate Martini, straight out of the movie "A Date with Tad Hamilton." This cocktail is really easy to make and is always a winner.
Chocolate Martini
6 parts vodka
1 part chocolate liqueur
Combine ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir well. Strain into a martini glass to serve. For an extra chocolate kick consider rimming the glass with chocolate flakes.
For a real touch of luxury there is the Death by Chocolate Martini, this is rich, creamy and delicious.
Death by Chocolate Martini
1 ½ oz Godiva chocolate liqueur
1 ½ oz dark crème de cacao
1 oz vanilla vodka
1 ½ oz half'n'half
Rub the rim of your martini glass with a lime and then dip the rim into some Oreo cookie crumbs.
Place all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into the Oreo rimmed martini glass to serve.
The next best thing to a chocolate has to be chocolate cake which brings us to the next recipe.
Chocolate Cake Martini
3 oz vanilla vodka
½ oz frangelico
3 oz crème de cacao
sweetened cocoa powder
Wet the rim of the martini glass with water and dip into the sweetened cocoa powder.
Take the liquid ingredients and place them in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into the prepared martini glass to serve.
If you prefer a choccy biscuit to a slice of cake then this cocktail is for you. It adds cognac for a little bit of warmth and to round out the chocolate flavor.
Chocolate Biscuit
1 ½ shots Cognac
1 ½ shots dark crème de cacao
1 ½ shots kahlua
Shake all of the ingredients together with ice and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a dusting of chocolate powder.
For an extra special touch when serving this cocktail use a stencil when dusting with the chocolate powder. They come in all sorts of pictures from hearts to stars and even happy faces. If you are mixing a Chocolate Biscuit for a special someone you could add a heart, if it's for a group of friends you could try a happy face. You are limited only by your imagination.

Chocolate and fruit also go well together, especially berries. I have recipes for a Berry Chocolate Martini and a Chocolate Raspberry Martini on my Berrilicious Martini site.
If you have time to prepare the garnish ahead of time then this cocktail combining strawberries and chocolate is bound to be a hit.
Chocolate Covered Strawberrytini
2 ½ shots strawberry vodka
1 ½ shots white crème de cacao
1 strawberry
melted chocolate for dipping.
Once the chocolate is melted you need to dip the strawberries in and then leave in the fridge for the strawberries to harden.

To make the cocktail add the vodka and crème de cacao to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into a cocktail glass, garnish with your chocolate coated strawberry. This cocktail is great for Valentines Day or a girls cocktail afternoon.
Cherries also go well with chocolate and feature in my next recipe.
Chocolate Coated Martini
1½ oz vodka
½ oz Godiva chocolate liqueur
½ oz vanilla schnapps
cherry
Place a cherry at the bottom of a cocktail glass. In a mixing glass add vodka, Godiva, vanilla schnapps and ice then stir. Strain into the cocktail glass covering the cherry.
A childhood favorite of many is the banana split and it is in memory of this delicious treat that I am adding the next cocktail to this page.
Banana Split Martini
1 oz vodka
½ oz crème de bananas
½ oz crème de cacao
Place all of the ingredients, along with ice, into a cocktail shaker and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass to serve.

I love Terry's Chocolate Oranges and these prove that chocolate and orange are a combination that goes together really well. When I was younger I used to get given a Terry's Chocolate Orange in my Christmas stocking. I loved it and so wanted to replicate the flavor in a cocktail.
When trying to come up with an alcoholic form of this favorite chocolate the nearest I have come to is the following Chocolate Orange Martini.
Chocolate Orange Martini
2 shots vodka
2 shots white crème de cacao
1 shot triple sec
Shake all of the ingredients together with ice and strain into a cocktail glass to serve.
Butterscotch is another flavor that, along with caramel, goes really well with chocolate and this is well illustrated with the Butterscotch Martini.
Butterscotch Martini
2 shots vodka
1 shot butterscotch schnapps
1 shot white crème de cacao
Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
If you are after more of a richer caramel flavor then the Chocolate Carmel Martini is a great drink.
Chocolate Carmel Martini
1½ oz vodka
1½ Baileys
3 oz Kahlua
3 oz Godiva chocolate liqueur
Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker, with ice, and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass and enjoy.
One of my favorite chocolate bars (yes, there are A LOT of them!!) is the bounty. I think coconut and chocolate are made for each other, so grab the Malibu and let's make up some more cocktails!
Choco-Coconutini
1 shot vodka
1 shot Malibu
1 shot dark crème de cacao
Place all of the ingredients together with ice into a cocktail shaker and shake. To serve strain the cocktail in to a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a sprinkling of chocolate powder.
Cocuba
2 shots golden rum
1 ½ shots Malibu
¾ shot white crème de cacao
½ shot frangelico
desiccated coconut for rimming the glass
Moisten the rim of the glass with water or an orange wedge and dip it in the coconut.
Shake the ingredients together with ice and strain into the prepared glass to serve.
The addition of coffee to chocolate really helps to intensify the flavor which is why Kahlua is often added to these chocolate cocktail recipes. Rum is another flavor that goes well in chocolate cocktails as it adds a depth of warmth to the finished drink. This leads us to the Coco Martini.
Coco Martini
1 ½ Bacardi Coco rum
¾ oz Kahlua
½ oz brown crème de cacao
Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass to serve.
Chocolate Rum Martini
½ shot dark crème de cacao
½ shot crème de menthe
½ shot double cream
½ shot milk
1 tsp rum
Shake all of the ingredients, except the rum, together with ice in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a cocktail glass and then carefully pour the teaspoon of rum onto the drink so that it floats on top.
An absolute classic combination is chocolate and mint, a great way to end a meal is with one of these cocktails (if you need an excuse to try one that is).
Chocolate Mint Martini
1 oz vodka
½ oz white crème de cacao
½ oz green crème de cacao
Shake all of the ingredients together in a cocktail shaker, with ice. The next step is to strain the liquid into a cocktail glass to serve.

If you want to really add something when serving this cocktail you could place the cocktail glass on a saucer with an after eight mint next to it. This is a great idea if you are serving up a cocktail as an after dinner drink instead of a dessert.

Chocolate, Mint & Alcohol - delicious!
Midnight Mint
1 ½ shots baileys
¾ shot white crème de cacao
¾ shot green crème de menthe
Shake all of the ingredients together with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a dusting of chocolate powder.
