Do you like the flavours of chocolate and toffee combined? This easy to make square has a buttery bottom layer and a soft melt in your mouth chocolate top. It makes a nice genorous pan that cuts easily into small squares perfect for entertaining at home or packaging up for neighbours and family. Chocolate Toffee Squares are becoming a favourite at our house. I'll share this great recipe with you and hopefully inspire you with photos to make it for yourself.

Chocolate Toffee Squares
The Recipe...
Chocolate Toffee Squares3/4 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 Tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup semi- sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup butterscotch chips
1/4 cup light corn syrup
2 Tbsp. Golden Crisco shortening
1 Tbsp. water
1/3 cup slivered or crumbled almonds
In a large dish, cream butter and sugar together. Beat in egg yolk, vanilla and salt. Stir in the flour. Spread mixture evenly over bottom of greased 13 in x 9 in pan. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 18 - 20 minutes or until it is light brown in colour.
In a microwavable dish combine chocolate and butterscotch chips, corn syrup, shortening and water. Melt stirring evey 30 seconds until blended. Spread onto slightly cooled crust. Sprinkle with the almonds. Refrigerate until set and then cut into squares.
