German Chocolate Cake
No it isn't from Germany!
Sam German created the mild dark baking chocolate bar for Baker's Chocolate Company in 1852. This became Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate. Somewhere along the way the 's' was dropped and the confusion started about the origins of the chocolate.
The first published recipe for German chocolate cake appeared in 1957 in a Dallas newspaper and quickly became one of America's most popular chocolate cakes
