The Niacin Solution

Your cholesterol is high. Should you care?

Yes! In many cases the first symptom of coronary artery disease is sudden death. There is no warning.

Are there other things to look for in heart health? Sure, there are. The niacin solution is about taking niacin to lower bad cholesterol, LDL, and raise good cholesterol, HDL, levels. Dieting will not have that much effect on your cholesterol.

Have a test for cholesterol. Then follow up as needed.

Your cholesterol is high. So?

What are your options for control?

Has your doctor recommended a statin drug for cholesterol control?

That may be the appropriate treatment.

I thought there were enough questions about statins that I wanted to try something else. Niacin was one suggested treatment. Niacin is an inexpensive way to control your cholesterol. Niacin has worked well for me.

When my doctor advised me to take a statin drug, I checked other avenues. Dr. William B. Parsons, Jr. recommends taking niacin to control cholesterol. Niaciin raises HDL and reduces LDL. Statin drugs only lower LDL. Niacin is inexpensive. You can always add the statin if the niacin is not enough.

Niacin is safe, but should be taken under a doctor's supervision. My doctor agreed to monitor my progress. Find a doctor who will serve as a monitor. While diet and exercise may help, they are not likely to be enough.

What about niacin flush, the burning, stinging skin flush from taking niacin? I had very noticeable niacin flush in the past. The manufacuturer is the key to reducing the flush. I have had almost no flushing even with high doses. The company I use is Endurance Products.

My LDL went from 143 to 101. My HDL went from 45 to 67. This was after one month. I have had no problems.

Read Dr. Parsons to answer your questions.
