Hello, I'm Julie-Ann Amos, and I run Exquisite Writing, an international copywriting agency based in the UK. This lens provides information on how to choose a website writer.

Introduction

When you decide that it's time to update your website, one big question is how to generate the content. Unless you're a professional writer, hiring a web content writer is your best option. There are many freelance writers who specialise in website writing. But where should you look and what should you consider when choosing the right web content writer?

Finding A Website Writer

It is important to chose a freelance writer who really understands website writing. This may be general or may relate to a specific country, such as UK website writing. Look for a writer who can provide work samples which relate to your project. Look at these carefully to make sure that they read well and that the style is appropriate for your website. If the writer has a good command of language and provides original and interesting work, you are half way there.

Web Writing References

Any reputable website writer should be able to prove their experience of the web content writing industry. Looking at work samples is one part of the job, but being able to see feedback from previous clients is another. A professional writer will be happy to provide these. Check references thoroughly so you can be sure that you have chosen the right website writer.

Forming A Writing Partnership

When you hire a contract writer to produce website content, it's a partnerhip. Your part of the deal is to give the writer the right information to produce the content you need. The writer's part is to meet the brief and deliver on time. Regular communication is essential. You can usually tell if a website writer is a good communicator in the hiring phase; if you have difficulty getting responses, then consider another writer.

Dealing With Payment

When it comes to hiring a website writer, the cheapest isn't always the best. Writers who have experience and skill will cost a bit more, but the peace of mind will be worth it. Most contract writers are willing to discuss tailoring the job to your budget.

The Website Writing Contract

When you have chosen a website writer, it's time to consider the writing contract. Many writers work on a 'work for hire' basis, which means that once you have paid the appropriate fee, the written work belongs exclusively to you. Many freelancers have their own contracts, but you can also find out more about negotiating writing contracts online

Feedback On Your Web Writing Project

When the job has been completed, don't forget to provide feedback for the website writer. This will help the freelance writer and could be the start of a mutually productive relationship. If you're happy, you will know who contact the next time you need a web content writer.
