Choosing a Digital Photo Camera

Tips about choosing your first digital photo camera.

Very few people know how to choose a digital camera. There is, however, a wide variety of digital cameras. You can choose between lower-priced cameras and expensive DSLR cameras. Though choosing a camera is not all about price. More expensive cameras are not necessarily better. Choosing a camera is individual, almost private matter.

After considering features and prices you can move on to assessing your own needs. Let us assume that the best cameras are DSLRs. But they are far from being always the best choice. Say, you are going to meet your friends and make some photos. Naturally, you can buy a big camera and then keep this burden throughout the entire party. A medium-sized camera will be just the right thing in this situation. The so- called "point and shoot" or compact cameras are the best for daily use.

Cameras can be bought everywhere. You can buy the lowest-priced "point-and-shoot" camera or high- quality camera capable of taking professional shots. You don't need to intentionally look for a place to buy a camera, because they are sold almost everywhere. However before buying one, study its options so that you get what you need.

Naturally, digital cameras which cost about $200, won't make best photos. Sorry, of course they will do being in hands of the experienced photographer, but they are not fast enough, sometimes they are not comfortable to use, so, you do not switch your settings in a handy manner.

Digital single-lens reflex cameras, which also can be found everywhere, will let you make high-quality photos (from technical point of view). That's where the problems begin, though. Choosing a camera which costs more than 500$ is a very difficult task. On the one hand, you don't want to pay more than should be paid. A DSLR camera (even a lower-priced model) provides you with the best quality possible, most of them inherit features from point-and-shoots, so, they start to be easier, and at the same moment start to be smarter. On the other hand, there is always a intimate longing to buy a camera with more options at a higher price.

The wide variety of digital single-lens reflex cameras available on the market today makes it even more complicated to choose a proper one. You just don't know which part of the shop window you should look at. As a result you can't buy a camera with the options you need. To put it this way, if you don't know what exactly you want, you'd better not buy an expensive camera. Start with something "simple". Read some magazines, comments and test reviews. Think of some places where you could buy a camera and compare the prices.

Remember that price isn't everything. Breaking any camera which costs more than 100$ will disappoint you a lot and you lose your money. Reliable shops in such cases will replace your camera. In the worst case they will take your camera to the service centre. You'll have to cope with your problem on your own after a camera from an unreliable source got broken. In the end 2$ saved turn out to be 100$ lost.
