Choosing A Sump Pump For Your Flooded Basement

Your choice of pump depends on how often you get a flooded basement, your budget, and the height of water in your basement flooded. Sump pumps vary in engine capacity and number of gallons can be pumped per minute. Generally, the higher the gallons per minute, the pump would be better. A sump pump with at least one engine of 1.2 horsepower will be able to handle most of flooded basements, but if you have a serious flooding problem, consider one that has a larger engine.

When shopping for suction pumps, make sure that you choose has a check valve that prevents water from flowing back through the pipe, otherwise your flooded basement may worsen what already is.

A sump pump can be connected to a garden hose or a general valve hose. In general it is better to use the larger hose so that water can be pumped out of flooded basement faster.

Also, consider getting a spare battery for the pump, in case you have to drain the water from your flooded basement, where there is no electricity.

The best person to help you decide which type is best for you would be the technical or sales assistant in the shop where you are thinking of buying the sump pump. Ask questions, and it is always better to go to a superior model to that which is right for your condition now flooded basement. In this way, if you ever experience heavier floods, you will be prepared.
