How to buy A Home Security System and be Safe
Ranked #23,043 in Home & Garden, #344,849 overall
Should you have a Home Security System?
There are many reasons to consider a home security system and it is not all about protecting your possessions, (while that is often the main reason). Home alarm systems also give you peace of mind while you are home. Home Alarms can be armed when you are home to keep intruders out while you sleep, alert you if you child falls into your pool, call for help if you are hurt while you are at home (usually for elderly people).
Security systems can also protect RVs, boats and motor-homes with RF extensions to the system. Exterior garages and out buildings can be tied into the system. Even security cameras can be added to your alarm system so you can view around your house even when you are away on vacation (ip video systems).
Most of these systems are affordable to buy, some can be installed by a competent do-it-yourselfer, and are reliable and easy to use. Monitoring is extra but is not unnecessary in all cases.
The options seem endless, so we will be covering the main things you need to think about in this lens and will have many polls and debates so you can see what others feel about the use of home security systems (not to be confused with homeland security which is yet another topic!!!)

Debate - Is it worth paying to have your home security system monitored?
Monitoring can cost quite a bit of money, Usually for a home it's between $20 and $50 per month. The question is, Is it worth it? Some say no, they have neighbors who will check the house, or police response is too slow. Others feel it gives them a little more security when they leave the house or when they go to bed at night.
What do your think?
Is monitoring worth the money
Home Alarm System Poll
Even though alarm systems are becoming very affordable many people don't see the need to have one for their house. How about you?
Don't worry, if you don't have one we can't track down where you live and break into your house. :)

Online Pool Alarms
The goal here is to protect kids from drowning in your pool. Some of these features can be added into a home security system, others are stand alone features and do not require a home alarm system.
Online Emergency Health Alert Alarms
The system usually have a microphone and speaker set up so that the person in trouble could actually talk with the central station to let them know what was happening. If the person couldn't talk, then the authorities were called for assistance.
Yes, these systems are still around and are very popular with older ones that want to stay home but would like a little security if something happens.
Online Motion Detectors and PIRs
How much do you know about alarm system parts Quiz - PIRs
PIRs are an important part of most home security systems. Knowing what they are and how they work can help prevent false alarms.
Quiz - Fire Alarm Parts
Many home security systems incorporate fire and smoke detection. Do you know what each part really is detecting?
Quick Arm Vrs Security Code Arming
One touch arming vrs putting in your security code to arm the system.
Most alarm systems allow for quick arming in the installer programming. This mean you can press one button and have your system arm up. Very convenient..... Unless some child (or someone young at heart) decides it would be funny to arm the system so that the next person who heads out a door sets off an alarm. Requiring a pass-code to arm the system means that only authorized persons can arm your alarm system.
Of course either way requires that you use the pass-code to disarm the system.
So which do you think is best, Pass-code arming or Quick one button arming of a security system?

Quick arm! I'm in a hurry!
No One arms my system but me! Pass-code arming for me.
