Choosing The Best Pool Cues
Ranked #8,333 in Sports & Recreation, #212,704 overall
Can your pool cue really make a difference in how well you shoot?
For most billiards enthusiasts there is one question that always haunts their minds. That question is if whether or not getting a better cue can improve their game. Although getting a different cue wont improve your game, you can find one the has the properties to cater to your playing style.
How to Choose the Best Pool Cues
So you are tired of using crummy bar pool cues and want to graduate to a good pool cue of your own. A good pool cue of your own is sure to help you have a better game than those abused public use billiard cues. If this is your first cue purchase then you may not be sure of how to choose the best one. This small article will give you a few pointers to help.
First look at the price range of pool cues and decide how much you are willing to spend. Good cues can be had under two hundred dollars and if you know what to look for you may be able to find a good beginners cue for around a hundred or so. You will want to shop at a store that is dedicated to billiard supplies. A simple sporting store proably will not have good quality cues if they carry any at all. So you may need to look at online stores if you cannot find a local billiards supply store.
Look online for reviews on the cues you are considering. You want to find one that does not have a history of warping over time. Inlays will cost more if well made and if not well made an effect your game. If you want to cut price cut back on the decorations on the cue you choose. If you are a woman try looking for a manufacturer that designs cues especially for women. Look for a cue made of a hard material the harder it is the more power there will be in your shot, though softer materials can give you more control. Wood is the most common material a cue is made out of though some are made from a fiberglass and graphite composite. Fiberglass is less likely to warp but experienced players still prefer wood.
Weight is also an important factor in choosing a pool cue. You should choose one that feels good to you. Think about the weight of the cue you like to use most when using the public cues. Cues weigh on average from eighteen to twenty one ounces. More professionals seem to prefer lighter cues but the choice is entirely based on what feels right for you. Some pool cues have a special bolt you can add of remove to adjust the weight based on the shot you will be taking.
Length is also important. Cues average only between fifty seven to fifty eight inches. Longer cues tend to have better control but you may prefer a short cue if you have shorter arms. The joint is also an important factor. What the joint is made from will change how the cue feels and behaves for you. Joints are made from plastic, ivory or wood. A wider or longer joint may last you longer. Overall the way the cue feels for you is the most important factor in choosing your pool cue.
