Choosing a Credit Card

Choosing the right credit card is essential. The following are some key issues to consider before you apply for one.

You should take special note of the annual percentage rate. If you are not planning on paying the balance in full you do not want a card with a high rate. If you however plan on paying the card off every month then the annual percentage rate is not that much of an issue.

Fees

Fees are another thing to look at. You should make sure the card does not have an annual fee. A lot of them do so make sure you can afford it if you must apply for one that does.

Some companies may waive the first year to lure new customers in. The second year the same customers get hit with a big fee and it catches them off guard. Do not let this happen to you. The fee may also be waived if you meet certain requirements like spending so much money in a year.

Other Considerations

There are other fees that you should consider. These include: credit card surcharge, late payment fee, over limit fee, foreign currency conversion fee, and cash advance fee. You should make sure you know what all these are and are comfortable with them before applying.

The Fine Print

You should also make sure you understand all of the terms and conditions before applying. Read all the fine print. Your credit rating is critical and you do not want it to suffer because of something you did not understand.
