Australian native Chris Hemsworth, was a 6'3" lean "surfer" body type when he was picked up for the role of Thor. He had a lot of work to do and weight to gain to portray the God of thunder.
"It wasn't until Thor that I started lifting weights. It was all pretty new to me." Hemsworth says.

20 pounds in 3 months!
First was diet. He stuck mostly with a steady intake of fruit, vegetables, and lean meats for the best muscle build. One of the few carbs he ate was quinoa which has more protein then a rice or oatmeal plus healthy fats.
"I feel as if I've been busy, but all I've been doing is eating all day."
Along with diet he says "Rest and exercise were equally as important."
His trainers stressed the importance of variety in weight, reps, speed, and placement to get the best muscle stimulation. Once the workout feels easier its time to switch it up. It has been mentioned that he never worked out for more than 45 minutes with shorter rests to prevent rise of stress hormone. " Another tip trainer Michael Knight gave Chris was to increase his weights 5% every two weeks in order to gain muscle fast.
"Just looking at Michael, you know he knows what it takes to be built and strong," Hemsworth says.
He was told to do 3-5 sets at 100% effort rather than more sets at less effort because it will contribute to greater muscle growth. Also with heavy weights to lift only 10 reps strong rather than several reps at a weaker level.
With an incredible workout and diet laid out all Chris had to do next was get plenty of R&R and he got a well deserved body of a God.
