Dr. Jonathan Christenbury from Christenbury Eye Center

As the Medical Director of Christenbury Eye Center, Jonathan Christenbury, M.D., F.A.C.S., is at the forefront of laser vision correction. In fact, Dr. Christenbury is one of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the nation. He has completed more than 60,000 LASIK procedures since performing the first LASIK procedure in the Carolinas and was the first to perform all-laser IntraLASIK on the East Coast, as well as the first to perform WaveFront Customized IntraLASIK in the Carolinas. He also serves as a laser investigator for many clinical studies.

In addition to his accomplishment in laser vision correction, Dr. Christenbury has performed more Visian ICL™ procedures than anyone in the Carolinas. The Visian ICL Implantable Collamer® Lens corrects the vision of patients too nearsighted to qualify for the LASIK procedure. Dr. Christenbury introduced the ReSTOR procedure to the Carolinas as an effective treatment for age-related Presbyopia, commonly known as "over 40 vision." As the most experienced ReSTOR surgeon in the nation, Dr. Christenbury is thrilled with the revolutionary ReSTOR procedure and its ability to mimic the eye's natural lens, allowing the patient to see clearly at all distances.

Dr. Christenbury is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine, and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Duke Eye Center. He then spent a year in fellowship training at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. As a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, he has reached a level of distinction in his field that many others have not.

At home, Dr. Christenbury is an avid reader and pursues a variety of athletic activities, including scuba diving, cycling, water sports, tennis and basketball.

Christenbury Eye Center is located just South of Downtown Charlotte. They offer comprehensive eye care for children and adults, from routine eye exams and prescription changes to treatment of medical conditions and the latest technologies, inclusing WaveFront Customized IntraLASIK. You can have confidence in Christenbury Eye Center's ability to exceed your expectations for quality care.

August is Cataract Awareness Month
There are no drugs or exercises that will make a cataract disappear, and contrary to popular belief, cataracts are not removed using lasers. Lasers are used in follow-up procedures, if needed. Cataract surgery is most often done as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. The cloudy natural lens can be replaced with an artificial lens (such as the ReSTOR lens)to give the eye proper focusing power.
