Christian Dior

Christian Dior (France January 21, 1905 - October 23, 1957 Italy), was an influential French fashion designer. He was born in Granville, Manche, Normandy, France. Christian's family hoped he could become a diplomat and he was sent to École des Sciences Politiques where he studied from 1920 to 1925. However, Christian was interested only in arts and after leaving school he invested the money he received from his father into a small art gallery, where he sold art by artists like Pablo Picasso and Max Jacob.
Later he joined the fashion house and worked with Pierre Balmain. In 1945 he started creating his own collections.
He was a master at creating shapes and silhouettes; Dior was once quoted as saying "I have designed flower women."
Dior started his carrier right during World War II and had to face some criticism as he used too much fabric for his dresses.
Christian Dior died from a heart attack. There are several rumours as to what triggered it: choking on a fish bone, playing a game of card and a sexual encounter with two young men

The 1st Christian Dior collection after Dior's death was an amzing success. It was designed by a 21 year-old Yves Saint Laurent. The clothes were as beautifully proportioned as Dior's.
