It was christened on the spot by Carmel Snow, editor of American Harper's Bazaar, as the 'New Look'. London couturier John Cavanagh described the style as 'a total glorification of the female form'...click here to continue reading V&A "Golden Age of Couture" exhibit

Christian Dior (1905–1957) | Thematic Essay | Timeline of Art History | The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Christian Dior's reputation as one of the most important couturiers of the twentieth century was launched in 1947 with his very first collection, in which he introduced the "New Look." Featuring rounded shoulders, a cinched waist, and very full skirt, the New Look celebrated ultra-femininity and opulence in women's fashion. After years of military and civilian uniforms, sartorial restrictions and

Acceding to his parents' wishes, Dior attended the Ecole des Sciences Politiques from 1920 to 1925. The family, whose fortune was derived from the manufacture of fertilizer, had hopes he would become a diplomat, but Dior only wished to be involved in the arts. After leaving school he received money from his father so that in 1928 he could open a small art gallery, where he sold

'Zémire' is one of Dior's most historical designs. It was named after an opera by Grétry, first performed at the royal palace of Fontainebleau in 1771. Initially, it was called 'Fontainebleau', but this was crossed out on the chart and replaced by 'Zémire'.

About bringitbackvintage

This journey began when I was a little girl. I would go through a chest that my stylish french mother kept up in the attic.  No matter how often I did, I never tired of this ritual of mine. The two items that I especially loved among the artifacts of books, pictures and clothing were a wiggle dress from the 1950's rendered in this breathtaking silk, brush stroke floral print fabric and molded into an incredible sheath silhouette with ruched waist, 3/4 length sleeves, and jewel neckline.  The other item was a pair of candy apple red stiletto high heels also from the 50's.  Ever since I can remember an intense curiosity and passion for history has haunted me.it was as if by seeing, touching, smelling and trying these items on that I was absorbing the essence of the past through each cell of my being.  My penchant for vintage clothing and fashion is born of this and Bring It Back Vintage is my way of bringing this love to you.  I hope you will enjoy the lenses I bring to you and even take a look at my inventory of quality hand picked vintage attire.
