Christian Goodman BP Exercises Review

Christian Goodman (pictured) has an ad that reads "High Blood Pressure? 3 easy exercises that can lower your blood pressure to below120/80 in as little as a week". Do his exercises live up to this claim? After using his exercises for several months we have I can confirm that this program has both strenghths and weaknesses.

High Blood Pressure?

"Three easy exercises to drop blood pressure below 120/80 in as little as a week." - Christian Goodman review

If you've spent time searching the Internet for solutions to high blood pressure (like I have) then you're most certain to have come across Christian Goodman's ad (which forms the title and subtitle of this module).

You see, eight months ago my heart started to act up and I was generally feeling tired and prone to headaches for some time before that. I was diagnosed with extremely high blood pressure (195/120) and put on a medication called Rampril (an ACE inhibitor).

Two months later my blood pressure was still sky high and all the ACE inhibitor had done for me was given me a persistent cough. So out went the pills and I began my search for a solution on the Internet.

Christian Goodman's little ad with a big promise kept popping us so I checked him out and decided to give his three exercises a try.

The exercises come in audio files (mp3) you can play on your computer. There is also a e-book transcript (pdf) that accompanies them.

The first exercise is a king of rhythmic walking exercise. It lasts about 12 minutes. It can be done outside by yourself or inside listening to the audio. Outside is better, of course (unless it's raining).

The second exercise is an 'emotional release' exercise that focuses on deep breathing and repetition of set phrases. last about 15 minutes or so.

The third exercise is a physical relaxation exercise best done lying down before you sleep for the night - because you will find it hard to get up afterwards.

What do these three exercises have in common?

Christian Goodman makes it very clear that he believes the main cause of all high blood pressure is stress. Stress, stress, stress .... and more stress.

These exercises he promotes are all designed to release stress from your life. As a result of stress reduction your blood pressure will recede back to normal levels - or that's how the story goes.

So did these exercises work for me? yes and no. Let me explain...

After using these exercises daily over a number of weeks my blood pressure did come down a fair bit - but still remained in the unhealthy high levels. It was not until I started following other alternative methods that my blood pressure finally dropped to an acceptable range (under 130/90).

What other 'alternative methods'?

I'm glad you asked.

The natural (no medication) methods I used were
- following a low blood pressure diet (eating less bad, more good)
- daily physical exercises
- 15 minute a day slow breathing exercises

All these methods combined enabled me to get my blood pressure back to safe levels.

If you suffer from high blood pressure and have been pondering whether the Christian Goodman three exercises are for you here's the deal:

If you live a stressful life and feel that stress is a main or principle cause of your high blood pressure then you will probably benefit the Goodman exercises.

If your high blood pressure is due to other factors than stress (such as genetics and lifestyle) then Christian Goodman's exercise might help - but will not form a complete cure.

That's what it was like for me. De-stressing wasn't enough. High blood pressure runs in my family and I was eating the wrong kinds of food and not much of the right kinds.

So if your a hypertensive stress-monkey I'd suggest you give Goodman's a try. If not, you might want to cast your net a bit wider.

My girlfriend who works in a pharmacy and knows about these kind of things says "don't get the wrist blood pressure monitors because they are not accurate enough".

Actually, no blood pressure monitor can be dead on accurate. They all work in ranges, not exact numbers. If you take your own blood pressure a few time in the row the numbers will never be identical, just in a range. It's not that your blood pressure is changing, it's simple measuring blood pressure is not an exact science.

The benefits of having your own monitor of course is that it takes the takes the power from the hands of your medical establishment and puts it back in your own hands - here it belongs.

Also, by doing your own blood pressure you have much less a chance of being a victim of 'white coat syndrome' (elevated false blood pressure readings due to the largely unconscious stress of being in the doc's office - or being treated to by a very sexy nurse!
