One of the cornerstones of Christian dating is the value of commitment. This means that once you are in a dating relationship, you are officially "off the market" and you are not looking to "trade up" when the next opportunity arises.

Once you enter into a dating relationship, you are committed to that person until either you decide to get married, or it doesn't work out. Leaving a girl for one that seems better is not part of the equation.

This is because we are to value the other person above ourselves and treat them with honesty, respect and love - and these things will flourish and be given to a greater degree when both parties are committed to each other.

But without commitment, you will never deepen your relationship and experience all there is to walking in a Godly dating relationship, because you are just using this person for the time being until "something better comes along."

This is one of the things that is supposed to be a characteristic of both Christian dating and marriage relationships - the idea of commitment. Not commitment as it's convenient, but commitment for life (if it's a marriage relationship), or until before the Lord we feel that we aren't supposed to date anymore. It's a sad state of affairs that statistics say that there is virtually no difference between the number of divorces Christians have verses the number of divorces that non Christians have.

And a great deal of it begins with the attitudes and values that you grow and develop during your dating years.

Now, it's not necessarily the Christians' fault.

To be honest, there isn't much information out there for young Christian guys on how to date properly as a Christian and how to go about finding the woman of your dreams. Oh, there's some information out there. But most of it is soo vague that it does no good, or it's confusing because there are soo many conflicting views about how we are to date as Christians. Dating is talked about a little here and a little there, but most of it is in vague spiritual terms, or is presented in a "don't do this, and you can't do that" manner! There isn't much out there that gives a Christian guy the specifics about what he needs to do (we hear about what we shouldn't do all the time - but what should we do?). I mean, what's a guy to do?

The world offers all sorts of "how to" information, but their so called tricks and techniques are all based on "getting what you want" and promote an immoral lifestyle. But recently, I found a fantastic book on dating written by David King called "How to Find the Woman of Your Dreams" - and it finally brings together practical techniques on how you can find the woman of your dream, while at the same time helping you develop into the man of God that you are designed to be.
