The Bible is pretty specific about how Christians should handle their personal finances. There are Christian ministers and financial experts that specialize in this controversial topic. This lens will point you to what the Bible says about debt, tithing, and taxes. You'll also find the best resources on Christian Personal Finance

What does the Bible say about debt?

It is clear that God does not want us to have any master besides him. MasterCard should not be the most important deciding factor of any action in your life. God wants us to be dependent upon Him and free from bondage. Debt is America's bondage. Many of us submit to it daily. There are many scriptures that discuss debt. Let's take a look at a few of them.
Deuteronomy 28
Deuteronomy 28:12-14
12 The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. 13 The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. 14 Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.
2 Kings 6
2 Kings 6 5-7
5 As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water. "Oh, my lord," he cried out, "it was borrowed!"

6 The man of God asked, "Where did it fall?" When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. 7 "Lift it out," he said. Then the man reached out his hand and took it.
2 Kings 4
2 Kings 4: 1-7
7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left."

What does the Bible say about taxes?

There is one particular instance in the Bible where Jesus talks about taxes. It was recorded in several of the gospels. Here are the links.
Matthew 22
Matthew 22: 17-22
17Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"
18But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, "You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19Show me the coin used for paying the tax." They brought him a denarius, 20and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?"

21"Caesar's," they replied.
Then he said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
Mark 12
Mark 12: 14-15
Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? 15Should we pay or shouldn't we?"
Luke 20
Luke 20: 22-25
22Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"
23He saw through their duplicity and said to them, 24"Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription are on it?"

25"Caesar's," they replied.
He said to them, "Then give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
