Why Christians Should be at Least Somewhat Concerned About the Environment

I wish to let those of the Christian faith know that it is okay to be concerned about losing trees from forests, littering, excess waste, and other things that damage the Earth. It's okay because if you believe God made the Earth and he gave you the Earth, why are you wasting his gift by trashing it? It is just fine to care about keeping the Earth beautiful because it says something about your amount of respect for the things created for you.

Why Harm God's Gift to You?

The Earth is your home. If you believe that it was created by a special being for you, you should be even more concerned about it being beautiful. Why is this? If the Earth is a gift to you, you should believe that it is a precious gift and should be treated with care--not act like it's okay to trash it because it will go away someday. That's pretty much taking creation for granted.

Christians and the Environment

The first thing that brought me to want to share this information with you is the fact that God deems, "Love your neighbor as yourself" an important command. What does that mean when toxic substance seep into your neighbor's well or groundwater because you decided that your disposal method was okay? What does that mean when a factory makes the air or the water polluted and people get cancer?

I know many of these Christians think the Earth is passing away, do they don't care. People have been waiting for the Earth to pass away for centuries. What does it mean to stay alert and do the right things in the meantime? What does it mean when you are asked whether you loved your neighbor and you have to admit that your carelessness might have caused his premature demise?

A sound way of doing things is to use good judgment while on the Earth. That pollution may not harm you personally, but it can get into the food you eat as well as other people's. Think of the mercury found in fish these days. Think of the deer you like to shoot for venison drinking from a polluted stream. It's kind of hard to deny this will effect you or your neighbor's health if either of you eat them.

I am just asking you to think of how your personal actions effect your neighbor. I ask this of you all in love, I am not going to force anyone to adhere to it, but you have to understand that if you love others, you have to make sure what you do won't harm them.
