New Year And New Upcoming Books For Christine Feehan

BURNING WILD -- April 28, 2009

Born into a world of twisted monsters, Jake Bannaconni is shaped and molded into a cold, revenge driven man. Honed in the fires of hell, he controls his world and rules with an iron hand. He has everything and anything money can buy. He's ruthless, merciless and considered a man to leave alone. His hidden legacy, that of a shapeshifter, makes him doubly dangerous in the corporate world.

Emma Reynolds is a woman who knows how to love and love well. When their two worlds collide, Jake's plans for a complete take over, may just come tumbling down.

I loved these two characters very much. The story is very emotion driven, and at times shocking. There are parts of this book that will be controversial and definitely, for some readers, probably not a good read, but it is Jake's story and I stayed as true to the repercussions of a traumatic childhood as possible within the realms of a paranormal world. While not for everyone, I think many readers will enjoy the story of one man's discoveries on his path to finding what's important in life.

HIDDEN CURRENTS -- June 30, 2009
Hidden Currents (Drake Sisters, Book 7)

Elle Drake has gone missing. She's a strong telepath and even her six magical sisters cannot find her, although they all agree she is alive. Something terrible has happened or she would have contacted them and let them know where she is. Jackson Deveau, a deputy sheriff in the small village of Sea Haven, off the northern California coast, has known that Elle is destined for him. When she disappears, he gathers with his friends, Jonas Harrington and Ilya Prakenskii, and Elle's sisters to find her and bring her safely home. But Sea Haven is no longer safe for any of them and it takes every bit of strength the combination of all the Drakes and their men to survive the coming storm.

She is a member of a band called the Dark Troubadours, whose members include: Darius, Barack, Dayan, Syndil, and at one time a Carpathian named Savon, who later turned vampire and attacked Syndil, and was subsequently killed by Darius. Her voice is her talent and she utilizes it more than once to affect a particular desired result. (XX - DC, DF, DMe) (alluded to in DGu)

Darius Daratrazanoff (LM6) - Brother to Desari and Gregori, he is the acknowledged leader of this particular "lost" group of Carpathians. Talented in Healing and Hunting, as well as Leadership, he is an eclectic individual, merging personalities of Mikhail and Gregori into one individual. He is the group coordinator for their band. Close to the end of his tortured existence, he meets Tempest, his lifemate. He first chooses to 'sleep the sleep of humans' and grow old with Tempest, but she leaves him little choice when he is mortally wounded. She supplies him with blood, to a near-fatal amount and he is forced to convert her. (XX - DC, DF, DMe) (** - DS) (alluded to in DGu)

Tempest Trine (LM6) - A flame-haired beauty, she is a mechanic by trade. She responds to an ad for a Mechanic, placed by Desari in hopes that she would be able to travel with their singing group and look after the tour bus. Desari mentions that her brain patterns don't match typical human brain patterns, and once Darius interacts with her, he experiences that flash of color and emotion and desire that only his lifemate could inspire in him. Though she doesn't understand it yet, and certainly with the lack of formal Carpathian education Darius cannot understand the signs, they are destined to mate. He claims her as his lifemate, though vows not to convert her. She attempts to persuade him to, at least once, and finally leaves him no choice in the matter. She is particularly adept at interacting with animals. (XX - DF, DMe) (alluded to in DGu)

Barack (LM7) - A quiet, moody, often possessive Carpathian who is a member of the Dark Troubadours - run by Darius and Desari. His self-appointed task is the protection of Syndil after her attack. Falcon (LM8) - A hunter sent to Italy by Vladimir Dubrinsky, Mikhail's father. He returns to the Carpathian Mountains to pay honor to his Prince before seeking the dawn. He meets his lifemate, Sara Marten, along the way, and seven psychic children - three girls and four boys - and the way of his life is altered forever. He pledges his allegiance to Mikhail and takes on an attack meant to kill Mikhail Dubrinsky. Knowing the cost to himself, he nevertheless chooses to make the sacrifice. (XX - DDr) (** - DDc, DDe)

Sara Marten (LM8) - Falcon's lifemate, they meet on his journey to pay respects to Mikhail Dubrinsky before choosing the dawn. She is the child of two archaeologists who were killed when she was but 15 years old. They happened to be killed by a vampire who then stalks her for 15 more years, but she always manages to escape him. The vampire wants her to help him find the tomb of the Master Wizard as well as the Book of Knowledge. Moving from place to place, from her home in North America to the small villages in Romania, she comes upon seven psychic children. Three girls and four boys come under her protection. (XX - DDr)

Gabriel Daratrazanoff (LM9) - One of the "Dark Twins", who, like his brother, is considered to be one of the oldest Carpathians still possibly alive. However their legendary status precludes the direct knowledge of their whereabouts. It is said that they are at least 2000 years old. It is also rumored that Lucian turned vampire and Gabriel was forced to destroy him. Gabriel's story is told in Dark Legend. We pick up his story from the point that the place he chose to lock both himself and his twin in the ground is being disturbed by moving equipment. He meets his lifemate, not realizing she is his. It is not until he realizes he's feeling guilt at what he expects to do to her that he begins to question his situation. (XX - DL, DGu) (** - DM, DC, DMe)

Francesca del Ponce (LM9) - Lifemate to Gabriel, she is a powerful woman in her own right. She brings an inordinate amount of strength and drive to a lead heroine in the Dark books. She is a healer of some renown, based out of Paris, France, she is called upon to heal terminally ill patients. She is called upon to heal an abused child, Skyler, whom she discovers to have psychic ability. When Skyler's abusive father dies, Francesca and Gabriel adopt Skyler. We learn later that Francesca and Gabriel have a daughter of their own, Tamara. Francesca links to a previous title, Dark Gold, in that she creates Stained-Glass Windows, some of which are in Aidan's house in San Francisco. She also creates a healing quilt for Corinne, in DMe. Major Protagonists

Lucian Daratrazanoff (LM10) - One of the "Dark Twins", who, like his brother, is considered to be one of the oldest Carpathians still possibly alive. It is also rumored that Lucian turned vampire and Gabriel was forced to destroy him. In Dark Legend, he links minds with Skyler and comforts her at times. Lucian's story is Dark Guardian, and after review of his history, we pick up his tale from the moment he forced his twin to mortally attack him. She becomes a police officer and we meet her as she is attempting to conduct a police operation. She becomes the first heroine we meet to actually fight vampires in her own right, alongside her lifemate. Dark Guardian is her book and is highly action oriented. Her own particular psychic talent is the ability to feel evil, before she actually witnesses the scene. (XX - DGu)

When Jacques is captured and tortured, he is the first to realize that his friend is still alive. He is captured and tortured the same way as Jacques. He was abducted in Dark Desire and tortured before Jacques, Gregori and Mikhail rescued him. He has his own story in Dark Symphony. He is a gem-caller by trade, however has dedicated his life to serving his people as a hunter. (XX - DDc) (** - DS)

Dayan (LM13) - Another bandmate in the Dark Troubadours, he is focused and caring, he is also the second-in-command to Darius. He becomes friends with Cullen Tucker. When Darius, Barack, and Julian all claim their respective lifemates, he leaves the band to go to Canada with Cullen. To avoid the stress of seeing his bandmates who now have their light bringers. He teaches her his ancient ways of battle, no skills one of her age should ever know, but they save her life. She never speaks to him, thus saving his sanity, when he doesn't realize she is his lifemate until she escapes and kills her captor, one who is bringing pain and degradation to her life. His brother is Vikirnoff. (XX - DDe)

Destiny (LM14) - Taken by a vampire as a child, subjected to tortures and pain beyond what any mere mortal could stand, she uses a psychic connection with a Carpathian to learn how to fight, to protect herself, and to overcome what the vampire had wrought. Lover Beware

Magic in the Wind (Christine Feehan)...Damon Wilder had always been a recluse. Never forming lasting attachments, all Damon lived for was his work. That all changed when his partner died and he was tortured for answers on the project he was working on for the government. Drawn to a sleepy town on the coast, Damon was enjoying his retirement as much as he was able. Then he started hearing the whispers. 'Sarah's home' seemed to call to him and he was irrestibely drawn to the house that was on the cliff above his. Sarah Drake was the first of seven daughters. Descended from a legacy of magic, Sarah put her special skills to use protecting innocent people. She was happy to take the job that would take her back to her home, but she was unprepared for the feelings that Damon Wilder unleashed in her. Magic in the Wind is a great story by Christine Feehan that has me looking foward to the six remaining stories.
Hot August Moon (Katherine Sutcliffe)...Anna Travelli was a special profiler of the FBI. Moved into the depths of the Behavioral Science Unit of the FBI, no one understood why Anna had to be at the scene of the crime to profile the killer. Anna knew though, she knew that she would see through the eyes of the killer and sometimes even the victim. Her current case brings her back to New Orleans and the lover and love of her life that she left behind. Jerry Costos never forgot Anna, not even in the years they spent apart. Now they are working together to solve the murder of the family of a good friend of them both. In the midst of it all, Anna knows that it could never work out. This is a prequel to Bad Moon Rising, which I already read and loved. If you haven't read Bad Moon Rising, you will not like how this book ends and you will be very dissapointed.

After Midnight (Fiona Brand)...Jane O'Reilly went from city girl to country wife when she married her husband, Patrick. When Patrick died of cancer, leaving Jane behind, she was determined to go on and keep the farm running. She hadn't seen her volitale neighbor, Michael Rider, in nearly seven years since the day his startling confession ruined any chance she would have at happiness with her husband. After standing by Patrick, Jane is now determined to find out if what she felt for Michael all those years ago was real. The day that Michael met Jane, it ruined his marriage and almost his life. Determined to give her time, he left for seven years. Now he's back, and adament on claiming her. But there is evil lurking in the shadows, and all Michael and Jane have are each other. I really enjoyed this book. It was short and sweet and held everything you would be looking for in a romance.

Only Human (Eileen Wilks)...Lily Wu was promoted to a detective in the homicide division of the San Diego Police Department because of her determination to find justice. When horrible murders start taking place, she is forced to work with Rule Turner, who may be the only one who could help find the murderer. Descended from a species that was not quite human, Rule's clan didn't believe in fidelity or faithfulness. Lily didn't think that would be a problem early on, afterall he was only a means to an end. Rule knew exactly who Lily was, all he had to do was get her to see it. Together they embark on a journey of discovery, from finding a murderer as well as a traitor, to discovering what it is like to find your soulmate. A definetly different book, I nevertheless really enjoyed it.

From Christine Feehan's Blog

Turbulent Sea (Drake Sisters, Book 6)

Sometimes things click into place and the "fates" determine that something special is going to happen. Sometimes it's timing. Sometimes it's luck. Sometimes it's talent and hard work. I think this is all of those things. And I couldn't be happier at the way it turned out.

Turbulent Sea is Joley's story from the Drake Sister's series. I always ask Circle of Seven Productions to do something different with the trailers so they're unique. The idea of doing a music video was exciting!

I sent the story to Sheila Clover English who writes the scripts for most of my trailers. After reading the book she sat down and wrote lyrics for the music video. I loved it immediately! Michael Miller came up with the melody and then Gregory and NiNi Burkart of CORVO took it and made it into a song, with NiNi singing it. It was a real collaborative effort on the part of COS.

Sheila worked with Domini Stottsberry to choose some of the scenes that would be in the script and then Sheila had to match the chosen scenes to the lyrics of the song so they would flow correctly with the music.

Sheila approached me about having someone more experienced with music video do the directing. Victoria Fraasa has worked on many top music videos and her husband, Steve Fraasa is an experienced videographer and DP. I met with Victoria in Pittsburgh during RT and we went over her vision of the scenes. I knew right away that this was going to be something special. So many people were involved from the beginning of the process to the very end.

We thought we would try to get the cover model from the Turbulent Sea book cover to play the part of Ilya. But, he wasn't going to be available during the time of the shoot so Sheila and Victoria started working on the casting. As soon as I saw Eric Holter I knew he would be perfect as Ilya. He had played a Russian before and we watched his professional reel, which is like a video resume, and contacted his agent to book him for the video.

Cecilia is my youngest daughter and has always played the part of Joley in the other book trailers. It was her turn to be the star. Cecilia got the music in advance and worked hard to learn all the words. She practiced lip syncing to the music and even listened to it in her car as she was driving around. My little girl was about to become a rock star! Lol

Michael Miller does all the special effects for COS and he would be on the set to help out and as a consultant for the special effects shots. Cheryl Miller, Jacob Henderson and Mike Miller all came for the shoot and Mike, Michael's son who is following in his Dad's footsteps, volunteered to play the villainous teenager that Ilya lifts up off the ground around the middle of the video.

Watching Cecilia perform was amazing! And watching the video I could see how hard she worked on capturing who Joley and how she performs.

Eric is an experienced actor and you could really tell. He was so patient and helpful with Cecilia and the two of them bonded right away. You can tell how great their chemistry was during the shoot. A lot of people think there's a kissing scene in the video, but there isn't. The romantic scene is so beautifully done and the part where Joley finds Ilya's gun and pushes him away gave me chills!

I am always so excited to watch the process during one of these shoots, but I never really can imagine how it will look when it is all put together. When I saw the video I was overwhelmed! It was more than I had hoped for. The sense of love, adventure and danger all came across exactly right and the performances were breathtaking. I love so many of the scenes it's hard to say which my favorite is. I've watched it so many times now and I'm still not tired of watching it. I love the music. I love the video. I hope that people will read this book and watch the video again. The book is very dear to me and I want to thank everyone who is so supportive of this series.

Grim Space

Christine Feehan's blog entry

It is very seldom that I can recommend a new book as I don't have a lot of time to read these days. My son discovered a new author, Ann Aguirre, and gave me the book to read on the flight home from RT. It was written in the first person, not a favorite of mine, so I almost said no. However, I'm so glad I didn't as I would have missed the adventure of a lifetime.

Grimspace is amazing! By the third page I was on a roller coaster ride along with the heroine, wondering what in the world was going to happen next. I was surprised to find I wanted more! More! More! The story is gripping and very edgy.

I don't know this author, but I honestly couldn't put the book down and didn't want anyone to interrupt me for any reason. I loved everything about the book. The world and the characters, even the secondary characters, were all amazing! The heroine is amazingly real and the hero is dark and flawed (just the way they should be).

I will admit that the first thing I did Monday morning was look Ann Aguirre up on the internet (http://www.annaguirre.com) to find other books. This turned out to be her first, so I called her publishing house and begged (see what I'm capable of doing to get a good book????) to see her next book. I can't wait to read Wanderlust and if the it's even half as good as the first, she will be at the top of my autobuy list.

If you love an adventure and a page turner, great characters and edge of your seat action, this sci-fi romance is definitely for you. Pick up Grimspace and give it a try!!!

Paranormal Romance

Editorial Reviews

Lover Revealed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 4)

From Publishers Weekly
Newbies to Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood may struggle to fill in the backstory, but these erotic paranormals are well worth it, and frighteningly addictive. The six "brothers" are vampires: enormous, tattooed, tormented warriors who protect other vampires from destruction by the "lessers," desouled humans in the evil Omega's Lessening Society. Hero and ex-cop Butch is the only human allowed into the Brotherhood's inner circle, but Butch is no mere human, a fact suspected by one of his vamp colleagues, and confirmed by the sinister plans of the Omega. The book is fully committed to its urban sensibility, the vampires' rarified language (a glossary is provided) and their revved-up sex drives, and it all works to great, page-turning effect (with the notable exception of a chick lit-like attention to designer brands). Though Butch's love interest, the virginal, aristocratic vampire Marissa, initially elicits more annoyance than empathy, she grows a spine as the book progresses and Butch's destiny comes to light. In just two years, the first three books in the series have earned Ward an Anne Rice-style following, deservedly so; this entry should prove no less popular. (Mar.)

Romantic Times, Top Pick 4 stars
It's tough to keep raising the bar in a series, but the phenomenal Ward manages to do just that! From book one, human ex-cop, Butch O'Neal has seemed like the odd man out in her vampire brotherhood, but in this amazing novel he definitely comes into his own. The world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood continues to grow and become more layered, ramping up the tension, risk and passion. This is awesome stuff.

Product Description
Butch O'Neal is a fighter by nature. A hard-living ex-homicide cop, he's the only human ever to be allowed in the inner circle of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And he wants to go even deeper into the vampire world-to engage in the turf war with the lessers. His heart belongs to a female vampire, Marissa, an aristocratic beauty who's way out of his league. And if he can't have her, then at least he can fight side by side with the Brothers.

But fate curses him with the very thing he wants. When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead, he's found by a miracle, and the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back, though even her love may not be enough to save him.

Carpathians

The Carpathian Mountains or Carpathians are a range of mountains forming an arc of roughly across Central and Eastern Europe, making them the largest mountain range in Europe. They provide the habitat for the largest populations in Europe of brown bears, wolves, chamois and lynxes, with the highest concentration in Romania,[http://www.human-wildlife.info/images/Europa%20Baer.JPG ] [http://www.human-wildlife.info/images/Europa%20Wolf.JPG ] [http://www.human-wildlife.info/images/Europa%20Luchs.JPG ] as well as over one third of all European plant species.Carpathian montane conifer forests - Encyclopedia of Earth

The chain of mountain ranges stretches in an arc from the Czech Republic in the northwest to Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine and Romania in the east, to the Iron Gates on the Danube River between Romania and Serbia in the south. The highest range within the Carpathians are the Tatras, on the border of Poland and Slovakia, where the highest peaks exceed in elevation, followed by the Southern Carpathians in Romania, where the highest peaks exceed in elevation. The Carpathian chain is usually divided into three major parts: the Western Carpathians (Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary), the Eastern Carpathians (Southeastern Poland, Eastern Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania) and the Southern Carpathians (Romania, Serbia).

The most important cities in or near the Carpathians are Bratislava and Ko?ice in Slovakia; Krakow in Poland; Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu and Bra?ov in Romania; and Miskolc in Hungary.

Vampires

Vampires are mythological or folkloric beings who subsist by feeding on the life essence (generally in the form of blood) of living creatures. Although typically described as undead, a vampire could be a living person. Créméné, Mythologie du Vampire, p. 89.Bunson, Vampire Encyclopedia, p. 219. ??????? ????????, ????????? ?.?., ????????? ?.?., ????????? ?.?. ?? ??., 1997.[http://web.archive.org/web/20070927212332/http://www.ber.te.ua/cgi-bin/dic/dic.php?nom=359] online article.

In folkloric tales, undead vampires often visited loved ones and caused mischief or deaths in the neighbourhoods they inhabited when they were alive. They wore shrouds and were often described as bloated and of ruddy or dark countenance, markedly different from today's gaunt, pale vampire which dates from the early Nineteenth Century. Although vampiric entities have been recorded in most cultures, the term vampire was not popularised until the early 18th century, after an influx of vampire superstition into Western Europe from areas where vampire legends were frequent, such as the Balkans and Eastern Europe,Silver & Ursini, The Vampire Film, pp. 22?23. although local variants were also known by different names, such as vampir (??????) in Serbia, vrykolakas in Greece and strigoi in Romania. This increased level of vampire superstition in Europe led to mass hysteria and in some cases resulted in corpses actually being staked and people being accused of vampirism.

According to some sources, living vampires could be sorcerers or witches (such as some types of strigoi), or the result of a demonic contract (such as the Penanggalen and Loogaroo).

In modern times, however, the vampire is generally held to be a fictitious entity, although belief in similar vampiric creatures such as the chupacabra still persists in some cultures. Early folkloric belief in vampires has been ascribed to the ignorance of the body's process of decomposition after death and how people in pre-industrial societies tried to rationalise this, creating the figure of the vampire to explain the mysteries of death. Porphyria was also linked with legends of vampirism in the 20th century and received much media exposure, but this link has since been largely discredited.

The charismatic and sophisticated vampire of modern fiction was born in 1819 with the publication of The Vampyre by John Polidori; the story was highly successful and arguably the most influential vampire work of the early 19th century. However, it is Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula that is remembered as the quintessential vampire novel and provided the basis of the modern vampire legend. The success of this book spawned a distinctive vampire genre, still popular in the 21st century, with books, films, and television shows. The vampire has since become a dominant figure in the horror genre.
