so thoughtful of you to put so much memories, traditions, and good ideas to what you do for the holidays, enjoyed my time on your lens this morning, thank you.

Merry Christmas AJ! Thinking of you this holiday season!

I loved reading about your family and holiday traditions. Like you, I loved Davy Jones and the Monkeys. And, I too wanted a tape recorder more than anything else one Christmas. I remember the hours of entertainment I had with that recorder. How times have changed with the new technology. It is obvious from your children's notes that you are very gifted at creating an amazing holiday celebration with your family. Wishing you many blessings at Christmas and beyond.

What a joy it is to read about your Christmas memories and traditions. In many ways, they are similar to my own.

I came from your beef stroganoff recipe because I was curious about the bread sauce recipe, which is a bit like the bread and milk recipe my mom sometimes served when there was no other food to be had. The "nice doggie" story is priceless.

Thanks so much for sharing your Christmas memories. The predominant theme throughout your stories is how much 'family' means ... at Christmastime - and throughout the year. No matter your circumstances, problems or worries, having family together for Christmas and caring about each other is the greatest 'gift' of all. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
  • clouda9 Dec 25, 2010 @ 7:21 pm | delete
Lovely Christmas page AJ. There were moments on here as I was reading that I felt like I was sitting waiting for you to bring me a cup of tea so we could have a chat.

Beautiful lens. My favorite Christmas memory? That would probably be family Christmas parties, which usually were on Christmas Eve (and still are). You don't really remember all that many of the presents that you received, but you do remember the get-togethers. Happy Holidays! Squid Angel blessed.

Just dropping by to say thank you everyone for your kind comments. I must admit that this has to be one of my favourite lenses and it is lovely to see so many people have appreciated the family theme.

On Christmas Eve this year my mother (aged 81) is going to show Sparky (aged 13) how to make her wonderful mince pies. Another family tradition that will keep going, thanks to Sparky's love of baking.

Shelly you beat me here. ! AJ, congratulations on winning an award and for coming to congratulate me as well. This is a wonderful heart touching place to visit. Christmas at AJ's sounds like a loving time. ~ Blessed and very happy to.

I've meant to drop by and am finally making it before Christmas and I must say you brought a tear to my eye. Your Dad's Christmas memories reminded me of Sue's and my Dad who every year how he would look forward to Christmas when he and his brothers and sisters would each receive an apple and an orange.
I worked for 21 years with developmentally disabled adults. One year Barbara came to me and said, "Shelly, wouldn't it be wonderful....if just for Christmas only.....we could all be little tots!" That's about the best Christmas wisdom I have ever heard.
May the blessings of God overtake you in your journey as you are such a blessing to others. Congratulations on your win--my heart was with you, but I only had one vote.

Well, I could write a whole lens of comments in this little box about all of the thoughts and tears as I read this wonderful lens. I could talk about how grateful I am for heat, my family, memories and my children, but mostly, right now, right at this very moment, I am grateful to you for reminding me of just how much we have to be thankful for. I wish you and your whole family a very, merry Christmas. Oh, I want a pie of your Mom (and Dads) mince pie

Christmas. The best time of the year (for me). Christmas 2006 and 2008 are the most memorable because the earlier was spent for my grandmother's wake and the latter was spent in the hospital due to my father's illness. It was an unusual Christmas but the important thing is that the family was complete and traditions were still followed.

Tonight is Halloween, and here I sit reading your Christmas Stories I have enjoyed reading them, and like you know that it is all about family and friends, and not the gifts that matter. This year as so many people are struggling with the recession (USA) I feel some will be depressed at not having all the "goodies" they used to have. While others will find the true meaning and enjoy themselves with whatever they have..

Lovely lens. I always am amused by us getting snow in Easter. Down here in London, we are lucky to get snow at all in the last few years. I love the Vangelis music - a bit of a fan myself. Somehow, while cooking Christmas dinner, I have to ensure the DVR records the Dr Who - not missing that for anything.

Fab! I really enjoyed reading you and your families' memories!!
  • seedplanter Dec 16, 2008 @ 5:31 pm | delete
Glad I listened to you and brought Kleenex. This took me back quite a few years. (By the way, there were six kids in my family and we all used my dad's long gray work socks with the red toes and heels for our stockings. Hung them over the "knobs" of the dining room chairs)
For me, Christmas is a time to celebrate God's greatest Gift to the world - Jesus. It's also a time to celebrate family, and my thoughts always wander back through the years. Us kids would always wake up much too early, and tiptoe out to the tree, which had turned into a sparkly sea of presents overnight. My dad would read the Christmas story from the Bible and then we'd thank God for the day and dig into those presents! Mid-morning, my mom would make pancakes and we spent the day playing with our toys while our parents nodded off in their chairs from sheer exhaustion.

I added "My Favorite Christmas" lens to your list. My husband and I had little money that year, but it was the best. ***** a fave. Beautiful, AJ!

Wonderful lens AJ, the only thing I found missing is that I could have just kept reading more and more while you ranbled on as more and more memories kept flooding back - and here I am at the end already :( You had a lot of different experiences to me growing up, but also some very similar too. I remember the winter of 1962, one of the few times we had deep snow in Poole, actually probably the only time I remember it. And of course the Morecombe and Wise Christmas Specials - they were always good. And a James Bond film or similar on tv after the Queen's speech (we only got big movies on tv at special occasions way back - no videos or dvd's and only 2 tv channels as well). 5***** is not enough...

Despite my lack of appreciation for our retailers that start pushing Christmas onto us as early as September, it is still a very magical time of year for me. Most of this feeling stems from childhood memories and fond family traditions. Your lens is a beautiful reminder of the true spirit of Christmas. Angel Blessings, of course!

What a great lens, I was just talking to friends about Christmas the other day and I said we always had an apple, orange, couple of peanuts in the shell and about 2 quality street chocs (always the toffee ones as mum and dad didn't like them!!!!)in our stockings.

I do miss a British Christmas, but this year we'll be having my parents with us so it will be fantastic.
