This is a wonderful lens on Cookie Exchanges. I've participated in one the past couple of years with my mom friends from my youngest child's elementary school. We also do a White Elephant and make a party out of it! It really is a great way to have a lot of different kinds of cookies for the holidays! Thanks for sharing all your great information!

My cookies are superior to those that others might want to exchange. Too risky. ... This lens reinforced my need to remain selfish. Thanks!

Wow! I've heard of Cookie Exchanges, but never knew how they worked as we don't have them here in Australia. What an awesome idea though! I think I might have to start up a new tradition! Thanks!
  • lbrummer Dec 7, 2011 @ 4:37 pm | delete
When our families were young, my friends (six couples), my husband and I would get together for our cookie exchange. The husbands came along because we had a Christmas potluck supper on the same evening as we exchanged cookies. Each of the wives brought a dozen cookies for each of the other families. That way we only had to make one big batch of whichever cookie we were bringing. Each of us brought one dish for the potluck---the one hosting provided the meat dish. The rest of the meal was potluck, but we never did have meat and just salads for our meal. We had a great parent Christmas party and brought home a variety of cookies for the kids.

  • kiwinana71 Nov 25, 2011 @ 10:55 pm | delete
Great idea for Christmas. I have not heard of it, but my daughter-in-law always gives me a plate of mixed Christmas cookies, because I tell her not to spend money on us as she needs it more than we need the gifts.
I always love the plate of cookies it usually last until New Years.
    Thanks for sharing Blessed

Super lens! I've hosted a few myself and attended a few as well. So much fun! It's a nice time for the bakers to get together and have some fun. One idea: There were times when children were also invited to our cookie exchange and I set up a decorating table for them with plain sugar cookies and gingerbread people, frosting and trimmings. The kids had fun decorating while mom attended to the exchange. (Add to the kids table: Paper plates, plastic knives, plastic wrap or bags and some hand wipes.) When kids see so many cookies at one time is a a definite photo op!!! Bring the camera!

  • ViolinStudent Nov 17, 2011 @ 4:33 pm | delete
Never done a cookie exchange, and mine don't seem to turn out well enough that I would want to subject anyone to them. Maybe that's why I don't get invited to them--or maybe it's a stereotypical thing since I'm a guy. (I do a good job on breads, though.) Thanks for the good information on this lens. And congratulations on LOTD!
  • jsr54 Nov 17, 2011 @ 2:37 pm | delete
We don't have an exchange but a get together with one of our close family friends to bake and decorate cookies. Everyone goes home with several dozen. Your lens gave me new ideas on how to package them correctly. Thanks, very pretty lens.

I'd do a cookie exchange, but I'd have to have a fake fire during the middle of it so that I can take everyone's cookies :) Very nice lens... now I'm hungry for some cookies :)

I love your lens! Christmas cookies are so good!
  • Swisstoons Nov 16, 2011 @ 9:03 pm | delete
I love cookies, but stay away from them most of the year.. Christmas cookies are a different matter. When I was a little kid, my mother would have to make three batches. The first batch, I'd eat almost right out of the oven. The second batch, she'd make while I was at school and hide. I'd find them and eat them. The third batch, she'd make on Christmas Eve. Some of those would actually see the light of day on Christmas morning. :) Your Christmas cookie exchange sounds like a terrific idea! Congratulations on your Lens of the Day!
  • mrducksmrnot Nov 16, 2011 @ 8:30 pm | delete

We do this at work every year. We limit it to 12 people, so you only have to bake 12 doz of the same cookies cookies but come home with 12 different kinds. We always have fun doing this.

This lens is beautiful; I can tell you put a lot of love and hard work into it! The cookies look delicious, and some of them are so pretty they don't look like cookies. A cookie exchange sounds like fun, but I don't trust myself to participate in one. I would eat too many cookies and make myself sick! ;-)
  • seedplanter Nov 14, 2011 @ 5:41 pm | delete
I don't think we can ever have too many cookie recipes! I have my old standbys from my mom, grandmother, and great-grandma (all three of them are gone now) but I do love trying new recipes now and then. Your cookies are almost too pretty to eat, but I'll see if I can force a few down. ;) Love this festive lens - nice job!

I've never experienced a cookie exchange but you make it sound like something I should plan on doing this Christmas. Thanks for the great ideas and I loved the pictures!

I used to belong to a local cooking club and we had a cookie exhange. It was so much fun! And it saves you time since you only bake one type of cookie and end up with many different varieties. Fun lens! I invite you to add this lens to my holiday craft fair lens since they are both Xmas related

Very useful lens. I'm going to link to it in the blog I'm writing on how Squidoo benefits readers.

Very cool lens, and you've got me inspired. while I don't do the cookie exchange thing, I do have cookie day when my children and I bake our favorite recipes and try some new ones. Love the pictures!

I went to a cookie exchange in my neighborhood one year and they invited all the husbands and wives. It ended up being a kind of like an informal holiday party, only with a LOT of cookies!
