Jacket-With Scarlet ch 46, dc in 4th st from hook, 1 dc in each remaining st of ch, turn each row.

2nd Row-Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each of the next 10 dc, decrease in next 2 sts (to decrease: * yarn over hook, insert in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and work off 2 loops, repeat from * once, yarn over and work off all loops at one time), 1 dc in each of the next 18 dc, decrease in next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of the last 11 sts.

1 9-inch round stick about ¼ inch in diameter

HEAD-Hold large crochet hook horizontally on 2 ½ x 5 inch cardboard. Wind 1 skein White "AUNT LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN over 2 ½ inch part of board. With large crochet hook pull three 22-inch lengths of yarn halfway through opening and tie. Remove cardboard. Trim into ball for head.

1Sign up at your local Jo-Ann Fabrics stores to receive a sales flyer through the mail. It typically will have coupons for future purchases on any one, regular priced item (or other coupons).

2Large craft stores, such as Hobby Lobby, frequently print their store ads in the local newspaper. Search for a discount coupon you can cut out and present at your next purchase.

3Many craft, yarn, hobby and retail stores provide weekly printable coupons for future purchases (or sales). Many require you to register on-line, and receive a newsletter in your e-mail in-box.

4People who use yarn often, may have extra skeins laying around that they are not using. Considering swapping it with a yarn you can use with friends and family.

5Walk through craft supply aisles often, and search for the clearance section. Check it often for yarns that are being removed from the store inventory.

Tip 1: When the afghan you're crocheting becomes too long and heavy, place quilting rings around the end you've already finished. It will make it easy to just flip it over when crocheting the next row.

Tip 2: When someone asks you to make something for them, write it in a notebook. Write their name, when they will need it by, and the item they want crocheted. Also write down where the pattern can be found. When you finish the crocheted item, take a picture of it and keep it in a photo album so when someone asks what you crochet, you can show them.

Tip 3: Threading a large-eyed needle with the loose strings after finishing a project and weaving the loose strings into the project are easier than using the hook. It just takes minutes to do a whole blanket with multiple thread changes.

Tip 4: If you are a beginner and frequently lose your place, write the patterns on lined paper, one instruction at a time.

Tip 5: When traveling, use an empty plastic coke bottle to keep the hooks from escaping.
