There is one big similarity between Halloween and Christmas: both allow you a free rein to your creative juices. However, while Halloween decorations are mostly scary and ghostly, Christmas decorations are radiant and shining, in keeping with the theme of the season! In this article I will tell you how to decorate your house and tree in the best possible manner.

1. The Christmas tree: The very first thing that comes to mind on thinking about Christmas is the Christmas tree. Now, there are a number of ways to decorate your Christmas tree. I really get frustrated when I see people decorating their trees in the same old fashion year after year. Why cannot they just be a little creative? For example:

-If you have vintage ornaments at home, you can use them to decorate your Christmas tree. Many families have a treasure of beautiful ornaments that are usually hereditary in nature, in that they are passed from one generation to another. Those families usually use these ornaments to decorate their Christmas tree!

-If your kids have created some cute decorations or crafts as part of their school curriculum, you can use them to decorate your Christmas tree. Likewise, you can also use any other homemade crafts for tree decoration!

Both the decoration ideas I offered above are special in the sense that these decorations have a special sentiment attached to them, which makes Christmas truly joyous for the whole family! But if you don't have either of these decorations, you can get inspiration from some of the books on Christmas decorations available from your local library or bookstore!

2. Christmas cards: This is one season when you get a lot of invitation cards and personal messages from friends and relatives. The usual practice for most card recipients is to decorate the mantelpiece or tables with the cards, but what if a point comes when you have no more spare room to display the cards in an aesthetic manner?

Well, this is why I suggest that you create a card holding tool at home. Don't buy the ones available from your local store as they may not be sufficient in case you have lots of cards to display! With the homemade solution, you can make your card holder as small or large as you wish! The card holder also doubles up as a unique Christmas decoration on its own. Talk about making lemonade from lemon!

3. Christmas candles: Fragrant Christmas candles are what help spread the fragrance of the festive season, so make sure you get enough candles to decorate the indoors.

4. Christmas wreaths: Candles may spread the fragrance inside your home, but what about the outside? Well, you can use holly wreaths and garlands to decorate the front of your doors, windows sills, etc, and extend the fragrance! What more, you can even decorate your lawn and all the trees and plants in it in the same style! Let your party guests enjoy the fragrance of Christmas!

Another sign is the white snowman. Snowman can be of two types: the one that is made of snow and another which is made of air balloon. The cool thing about the air balloon snowman is that you can deflate it and use it again for next Christmas! By the way, you would never see the same old type of air-balloon snowman more than once!

The decorators who create it know it fully well that repetition of the same decoration tends to get boring, and since tourists from other parts of the world visit the Western countries to have a glimpse of the snowman, the decorators have no other option but to come up with a different type of snowman each year. And of course, if you have cute little kids at home, you cannot stop them from crafting cute snowman and decorating the whole house with them!

As far as your home decorations are concerned, you can use snowman, colored paper cut into different shapes such as candy canes, bells, stars, etc., candles, music and such other stuff to decorate and enhance your house. Don't forget the Christmas tree too, of course!

Regrettably, in this day and age it is hard to sense the true spirit of Christmas which is philanthropy. Today, Christmas is all about decorating houses in the brightest manner possible, buying the most expensive gifts, and have the most elaborate and gaudiest party. If adults are like this, can kids be left behind? For them, Christmas is no more than the season of receiving dozens of cool gifts, toys, games and candies.

The true spirit of Christmas has simply died under the pressure of commercialization and globalization. I wish that another St. Nicholas would be born on earth and straighten the whole thing once and for all.
