Trust me here people, if you want to discover why fruitcake used to be treasured we need to trash all of our recipes with those horrid green cherries. Yuck!

THIS is the best, yummiest recipe for REAL fruitcake, basted with bourbon and filled with yummy fruit and cake. SOooooo good!

I'm the only one in my family that loves fruitcake. Every year my wife gets me one, but has not yet been tempted enough to try it. Maybe this year I'll make my own and get the kids to try some too. It's never too early to start loving Fruitcake. Thanks for the recipe.

Julie, another absolutely delicious lens! They actually said a fruitcake would be a pitiful gift? Shame on them! Wishing you, your family, and friends, a wonderful holiday hun! - Kathy

I love your squidoo pages. They always look so nice. I do remember the fruitcake lady on Jay Leno, she was sooooo funny - lol!

Just finished wrapping up my 2nd batch of fruitcake last week to let them age a bit. I learned from you to use a 300 degree oven, my husband's aunt didn't provide a temp, so I was using 350! These are the prettiest ever--Tipi already ate one from the first batch & is waiting for another one--she's a little, tiney thing & can afford the calories while it's best that I just smell them! Hope you are enjoying your retirement.

Hubby loves Claxton's! Thank goodness! I made 7 fruitcakes one year. Crossed that off my list of experiences! lol They were good, but much much work! Pretty lens! Even if one does not eat fruitcake, it is pretty and it smells so good in the oven! Yum!

Fruitcakes get a bad rap. I remember my Mom made the best ones for the holidays when I was a kid.

I have to say that I am not at all enamored with North American fruit cake, now British fruit cake, that's a whole other story, love it! Love the icing, love the marzipan, love the currents. Could eat the whole thing all by myself.

    Thanks for the lens.

Love this lens - but unfortunately I don't like cakes or anything sweet! I'll recommend your ideas to friends and family. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Every year I make a Light Almond Fruit Cake, that is not so heavy, and features almonds... It is totally divine!

I love fruitcake but I've never tried making it myself. I was afraid I'll mess it up. Your directions make it sound easy. I might give it a try.
    Great lens,

I only ever eat fruit cake at Christmas time - and that is only because I have to do that to get the icing from the traditional British Christmas cake. My Mum only used to let me have the icing if I had the cake and I think my guilt has stuck with me!

My husband loves fruitcake and looks forward to one every year. I've never made one, never in all our years of marriage (imagine that). This year, I think I'll make him one using your Bourbon Fruitcake recipe. It sounds good - lots of nuts, not a lot of fruit, which is my favorite kind of fruitcake (light on the fruit = nut cake?). Anyway, great job on the lens! SquidAngel blessings from me to you for helping solve a gift-giving problem this year!

Hi--my sister Tipi, sent me over to food to check out a lens and I found you. Many fruitcakes aren't worth eating. I've found the secrete to making them all taste good--coconut rum. I soak the fruit in it and drizzle the cakes with it before wrapping with brandied cheesecloth. Do the drizzle and wrap to an ohum cake and let it sit a few days and suddenly it is delicious! Personally, I don't know if anything can help a cake with citron, but each to his own. I first started making fruitcake 4 years ago after getting my husband's aunt's recipe--she didn't list the alcohol, I got lucky my first try--very popular with family.

Yummy...I'm almost drooling now! Of course, in the UK (and elsewhere for all I know) traditional wedding cakes would be 2 or more tiers, with the top tier being saved for the couples first child's christening. the same recipe would be used in families for wedding and christmas cakes. lensrolled to 'christmas crackers' :)

It is those green and blue unidentifiable so called fruits in it that turned me off. Love cake and nuts, but not those plastic fruits. Great lens despite the flavor.

I'll confess, I've never tried it. I've only heard the jokes and negative comments. My guess is that it's pretty good when it's homemade. Maybe I'll get brave this year!

Here in the UK almost everybody has a fruitcake for Christmas and birthdays. I quite like it occasionally. As for a pitiful gift, the cost of making the best fruitcakes really mounts up with all the fruit and nuts, let alone hours in a low oven to bake it with rising energy costs.

My hubby's a Brit, and it is a tradition over there to have Christmas Cake, essentially a fruitcake covered with a layer of marzipan and then white icing (to give it a Christmassy, snowy look). His mom makes it every year and it's one of the things he misses about Christmas, now living in the US. Great lens. 5*s

I also love fruitcake and i don't know why it has such a bad rap! I mean, real fruitcake is amazing (not the cheap grocery store kind). No one gives me fruitcake for Christmas :( Look people...I love fruitcake! Buy me fruitcake!

Oh, yea, thanks for the recipes, I need them. 5 stars, favorite, and lensroll.
