Decorating with Garlands - How To Hints & Tips
There are so many different ways to decorate with garlands that you might just find yourself gleefully going bough crazy. Let's discuss several options that you may not have considered to add extra pizzaz to your holidays.
- Christmas Tree - Of course this is the primary way to utlize these lovely strands, but here are some additional considerations. You'll need about 9 feet of garlands (length) for every foot in height of your tree branches. Swag them in delicate curves along branches at the same height to add visual impact. Attach them every 2 feet or so, to allow for a graceful sway. Add them after your lights, then add your ornaments last.
- Double Strings - Dazzling twin or triple bead or bough lines will enhance any area you've chosen to adorn, some people enjoy them twisted, I like them hanging in parallel strands. Use plastic zip-ties rather than wire for easy attachment & easy removal.
- Think Beyond Your Tree - Imagine the impact on your guests when they discover your bathroom mirror framed in lit beads, or when your kids return from school to find their bedroom door surrounded with evergreens. Revel in the Yuletide with a border around your computer monitor. In my home, we even grace our lamps & table legs for extra unusual charm. Of course you'll remember your railings and mantel, but how about the window over the kitchen sink to merry your dishwasher too.
- Consider Vertical Placement - A Lighted StringGarland is an easy method of creating a silhouetted tree from a center pole for night time drama. Stringing in parallel lines on your existing tree can also be a dramatic statement. Another fun idea is to twirl your stream around a lamp post, porch or deck column for a festive Candy Cane effect.
- Add Extras - Expert Interior Decorators add bows to their rows on their railings, or you can attach a collected of themed ornaments along your string. Try to stay with one color theme or shape/style when you try this tip.
