The Top Christmas Movies on Blu-ray (2011)

Disney's A Christmas Carol was released in 3D in 2009 at the movie theatres. It is the Disney and Jim Carrey version of the story. If you are a movie fan, I'm sure you did not miss hearing about the release of this movie although you may have missed seeing it, as I did.

Jim Carrey plays three roles in this movie, including a young, a middle-aged and an old version of Ebenezer Scrooge. Roger Ebert gave this movie 4 stars and called it "an exhilarating visual experience."

This movie was released in several packages: as a single-disc DVD; a two-disc 2D blu-ray and DVD combo; and a four-disc pack which includes a 3D blu-ray, a 2D blu-ray, a DVD and a digital copy.

The 1951 version of A Christmas Carol starring Alastair Sim is a favourite of many people, myself included. Amazon says that Sim's Ebenezer Scrooge is the "tour-de-force performance."

This is the second release of this version of A Christmas Carol on blu-ray disc. A lot more effort went into the production of this disc, and Blu-ray.com summed it up like this, it "offers some extremely appealing and well produced supplements spread over the BD and the DVD, and the upgrade in video and audio quality is palpable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

A Christmas Carol: 60th Anniversary Diamond Edition on blu-ray disc.

This is a 1984 made-for-television version of A Christmas Carol starring George C. Scott. This version was considered well done and rates by some people as one of the best productions of this story. Amazon says that Scott made Ebenezer Scrooge "less nasty for the sake of nastiness and more a product of a life of lovelessness" and also calls the supporting cast excellent and the production better than many made-for-television movies.

White Christmas is a 1954 Technicolor musical, which starred Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. It is famous for music written by Irving Berlin and includes the very famous title song, White Christmas.

A Miracle on 34th Street (the 1947 edition shown first in the images that follow this text) definitely ranks high on the list of best-ever Christmas movies and the blu-ray release does not disappoint. This version only has the black and white version, which is the one you should own. You could wait and watch it on television or you can watch on blu-ray where, as Blu-ray.com says, "it looks better, and more noticeably, sounds better than ever. Recommended."

It has been a long time since I have seen A Christmas Story and I am not even quite convinced that I have ever seen it in its entirety. The story is considered beautiful, following one boy's desire for the perfect Christmas present but emphasizes, in the end, the more important things about Christmas. A Christmas Story is considered one of the best Christmas films of 'recent' years.

The Polar Express was an amazing movie because of its tie in to a beloved children's book and TRAINS. It was beautifully done and it is a lovely family friendly film full of the magic of Christmas. It has much going for it including but not limited to drama, comedy, action (check out those dancing waiters) and a lesson. In terms of the blu-ray disc, Blu-ray.com says, "The video quality is astounding, audio quality is nearly as good, and the supplements are fun, informative, but a little on the short side. The Polar Express is a film every member of your family, both young and old alike, will adore. I can easily and enthusiastically recommend this fine Blu-ray disc."

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer is a classic children's Christmas special that we all know and love.

The Original Christmas Classics on blu-ray is a fabulous choice for anyone who loves the animated children's classics. This boxed set includes Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, Frosty the Snowman and Frosty Returns, all on blu-ray disc. Blu-ray.com says that this is the best presentation of these classic Christmas films to date and we definitely don't need them to tell us that getting all four of these holiday treasures for less than $30 is a steal.
