Photo Ornaments- How to Make Your own Photo Ornaments

Photo ornaments make both a terrific holiday display for your tree and also keepsakes that will be displayed year after year..

Photo ornaments can be do-it-yourself, or you can purchase ones that will be created for you by a commercial company. Often having them done for you have them turning out much better looking and professional but remember that these often take 1-2 weeks to be made so you will need to plan ahead.

The following are photo ornaments that you can choose to make on your own or with as a family project:

1 Photo glass ball ornaments . These can be hung from the tree like traditional ornaments. Because of their shape, there is room for a photo on one side, and a personalization on the reverse side. The name and date works quite well.
2 Photo star ornaments. You can personalize a star ornament or a star shaped tree topper.
3 Photo frame ornaments. Photo frame ornaments are the easiest photo ornaments to make as you can make them any shape or size.

The following steps should be used to make your own photo ornaments:

1. Using copies of your photos get them organized and ready to go. Don't use originals as you want to keep these as safe as possible.
2. Decide what type of ornament you want to create and print out the photos in approximate sizes that will match your desired ornament type.
3. Arrange the items that you are going to use to embellish and build your ornaments -such as round glasses, cardboard, glitter, glue gun & stick, white glue, ribbons and the actual ornament that you will use.
4. Cut out the photo and glue it on to your ornament. Add ribbons and any other fancy do-das.
5. In order to make a glass ball ornament, your photo should be on thin regular paper. You would then paint over it with a clear craft glue to adhere it directly to the ornament. You can also purchase photo transfer material made specifically for photo ornaments at a craft store.
6. In order to make a photo frame or star ornament, you will need card board cut to the shape of your ornament.

Now just add any other items that you would like to add, let dry completely and admire.

Many of our Christmas traditions originated during the Victorian era which is named for the British Queen Victoria.
The Victorian era was one that showed a stark contrast to the era right before. Now in saying stark, it not mean that the Victorian era was stark, but it was luxurious, lavish and splendidly opulent.

The Christmas trees during Victorian times often had bright colors, expensive glass, stones, jewels and ribbons.
Although very opulent the ornaments were not overly bright or gaudy and you may be surprised to see that they were quite plain, if you removed the embellishments.

Paper was one of the most fashionable materials used for ornaments and other decorations. The Victorians popularized Christmas cards with colorful printed scenes and instead of giving them as gifts, they would place them on their Christmas tree as they entered their friends home.
If you'd like to make some or all of your own Victorian Christmas ornaments it's easy to create these style ornaments with just a few pieces of paper, some glue and ribbon.

Wrap plain or Christmas wrapping paper in a cone shape and fill them up with candy. Candy canes and peppermints work quite well and give a wonderful red color to your tree.

Another favorite is to add greens and ferns to the paper cones. If you are using an artificial tree you can visit your local live Christmas tree lot and pick up some loose branches and end pieces and place them in the cones. Then your tree will have a faint Christmas tree fragrance.
