Paper craft Christmas ornaments, gift wrap, greeting cards and decorations
Christmas Paper Crafts are traditional and inexpensive decorations, cards and gift tags almost anyone can make. You can find ideas and patterns for Christmas paper crafts suitable for every age, skill level and budget: Christmas ornaments, cards, snowflake cutouts and tree decorations made from paper have been popular for generations.
As a child I learned to make cut paper snowflakes, paper chains, paper stars and many different paper crafts for the holiday season. Today paper crafts made from scrapbook papers and special cutters are very popular, but you can still make beautiful Christmas paper crafts with simple tools: scissors, craft knife, glue, tape and paper or card stock. You can make fancy cut outs if you own (or ask Santa to bring you) a computerized craft cutting machine.

Green Christmas Paper Crafts
Paper crafts for the holidays can be green and economical.
If you use recycled paper to make your Christmas paper crafts you'll save money and help the planet. I make papercrafts from old magazines, boxes, last year's greeting cards and newsprint or advertising flyers. Every year I save holiday greeting cards to recycle into hand crafted gift tags, decorations, paper boxes and post cards. Some are tiny works of art and I often frame them or use them to design holiday collage pictures with seasonal themes. Our family uses cut outs from recycled papers to make window stencils; we use newsprint or salvaged wrapping paper to make paper ornaments, paper pulp for hand made paper, cut paper garlands, paper mache and of course, paper snowflakes.

A tradition at Christmas: paper crafts made with recycled materials
Christmas ornaments, cards, snowflake cutouts and tree decorations have been made from paper for generations. As children we learned how to make cut out paper snowflakes, paper chains, paper stars and many different paper crafts for the holiday season. As adults these same simple Christmas paper crafts are simple and satisfying, adding a homey touch to our holiday decor.Paper crafts for the holidays can be good for the environment: recycle previous year's Christmas cards into this year's post cards, gift tags, gift boxes and ornaments. Make holiday collage pictures with seasonal themes from the artwork you snip from old cards. Cut out shapes from recycled papers to make patterns and stencils; we use newsprint or used wrapping paper to make cut paper garlands and snowflakes to hang from the ceiling or window frame.

Decorative Paper Cutting
Beyond snowflakes: artistic paper cutting templates and patterns
Paper cutting has been popular in many cultures for centuries. Japanese paper cutting is known as kirigami; German/Swiss cut paper art is called scherenschnitte. In Mexico, artists create cut paper designs known as papel picado.
Simple paper cutting techniques are used to make paper snowflakes and simple silouhettes. More involved cut paper designs can become works of art. These cut paper designs and patterns are all suitable for Christmas paper craft projects - use them to make ornaments, window decorations, holiday greeting cards or scrapbook embellishments.
Ellen Brown Paper Cutting Designs come from an out of print book in which the artist author gave permission for readers to make personal use copies of her original cut paper patterns.
If you cut a paper card or sheet using a simple paper cutting trick you can make it into a long strip. If you use the same technique with decorative cuts, you can make cut paper garlands from any size or type of paper or light card stock.

Christmas Paper Crafts: Gift Tags and Gift Wrap
The easiest gift wrap I've ever used is also the most eco-friendly. Wrap gifts in newspaper - either the newsprint black and white pages or the more colorful comic sections. Get creative and use the pages from appropriate sections: financial, home, kids and so on. If you want to add some punchy color you can stamp on red bells, bows or other simple designs using the potato print technique.
Before brown paper bags disappeared from the stores, I used cut up and flattened paper grocery bags or other paper bags turned inside out as my recycled gift wrap. I still like to use brown kraft paper for wrapping gifts. It's so simple I can add any type of paper cutout or tag to dress up and personalize a gift wrapped in humble paper.
