Great Menus for Christmas Parties

Entertaining during the Holiday Season

I love to entertain during the Christmas season.  I always look forward to planning my menus and getting ready for my guests to arrive.

I enjoy spending the time with my guests so my menus are set in advance and much of the food is prepared ahead of time so I can spend the maximum time with my guests.

In this lens I will share my menus  that I will use this year to entertain during the month of December.  Each year I try to add a few new items to my menus.  This year I am trying new recipes from fellow lensmasters on Squidoo.  When I show a new menu item, I will feature the lens where I got the recipe from.

I hope you enjoy my menus and please stop by the guestbook and leave your suggestions for party menus!

Merry Christmas!

Celebrating Christmas with Friends

Saturday evening Christmas Party

Our first party each year is usually held on the 1st or 2nd Saturday night in December and is a party for about 40 of our friends.

I keep my menu fairly simple. I have been making cookies, rye bread pizzas and crab puffs in the weeks prior to December and now I am ready to serve them at the party.

The Red Pepper Jelly spread you see on the menu is a very simple recipe. I take 8 oz of cream cheese and blend in two teaspoons of red pepper jelly. I serve this with an assortment of crackers. It is always a hit at the parties and people can't believe how simple it is to make.

My meatballs are also a very simple recipe. I buy a large bag of premade meatballs at the grocery store and heat them according to the package directions in the microwave. I do this about 2 hours prior to the party and then I put them in a crockpot and pour a bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's barbeque sauce over them. I set the crockpot on low and they will be ready to eat by the time the party starts. I make sure I have a small dish with red and green toothpicks setting next to the crockpot for easy serving.

For my nut and candy dishes, I like to mix various nuts with red and green M&M's. This year I've also made the chex mix using the recipe on the cereal package and adding red and green M&M's and raisins.

Easy Make Ahead Appetizer

wonderful crab puffs

This crab appetizer is always a favorite with my guests. I make up these appetizers in November and store them in freezer bags for future use. When guests arrive I just have to put them in the oven for a few minutes and I have wonderful hot appetizers to serve.

Festive Drinks for the Holiday

hot holiday punch

Every year I like to add something new to my holiday menus. This year I have added two new drinks. They both seem to be very popular.
The first is a hot holiday punch that can be served with or without rum and the second is a cranberry/amaretto martini. Both are very festive and very good! Stop by my lens for the recipes.

Christmas Day Festivities

On Christmas Day we host the festivities for both sides of our family. In the morning my husband's family comes over for a Christmas Brunch. We enjoy a hearty brunch buffet before we gather around the tree to exchange presents.

In the late afternoon my side of the family arrives. This time I serve a heavy appetizer buffet. My sister also brings a few goodies to add to the buffet.

This lens features the recipes that I use for my Christmas brunch with our family. We have everyone arrive about 11 a.m. and start off with some great Mimosas.

I then have all of the hot dishes planned to come out of the oven by 11:30 and I serve them buffet style.

I love to use my Christmas dishes to serve the food.

Christmas Cookies

best holiday dessert

In my opinion the best desserts for Christmas are cookies. I love to bake cookies and some of my favorites include the standard chocolate chips, bourbon balls, candy cane butter cookies, and wonderfully delicious layered bars. There are many good cookie lenses on Squidoo. Here are two that have some recipes that I particularly like and a few new ones I want to try.

Thank you to lensmasters Naturegirl7 and Janices7 for bringing us these recipes.

Party Tip

When deciding how much food is needed for a party I try to have one appetizer for every 2 people.
Example: A party with 10 people...I would have 5 appetizers. For larger parties I would multiple the recipes of appetizers rather than the number of appetizers. Example: 20 people....5 double recipe appetizers. 40 people...10 double recipe appetizers.
