Heart-warming Christmas Poems

Ranked #5,259 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #192,116 overall

Christmas - a time of nostalgia and reflection...

As children, we grew with our siblings and interacted with our parents on a daily basis. We told stories and played games and had lots of food to eat - more than we really needed, but we didn't complain even once.

Visitors would come to our houses - sometimes in disguise - and enjoyed making us figure out who they were. There were a few laughs as we tried to guess who would be wearing pantyhose over their heads and, when the faces were revealed, we were amazed.

There would also be caroling - going from one house to the next or singing while walking down the street - and, always, there were Christmas chocolates in abundance - and cakes and cookies - and it seemed family members had more time to spend with each other and patience was exercised more easily than the previous months of the year.

This lens will feature poems I've written pertaining to Christmas and you are among the first people to read them. I hope they touch your heart and bless your soul...

Away in A Manger

A Christmas poem by Norma Budden

Away in a manger my dear Savior lay -
The humblest surroundings on that Holy day.
With the scent of the cattle and a bed made of hay
The little Lord Jesus was content where He lay.

In the night, He awakened but He did not cry.
His mom was beside him - His Father on High.
He heard the sounds of the cattle standing nearby.
The little Lord Jesus saw the stars in the sky.

Mary awakened and looked down on her Son.
She wondered and marveled at this little One.
Her soul filled with love and her heart came undone,
As little Lord Jesus saw a glimpse of the sun.

Joseph was watching, a smile on his face.
He looked at this baby; his soul filled with grace.
He planned to instruct Him in all of his ways
As little Lord Jesus looked on His mother's face.

Hope For Tomorrow

A Christmas poem by Norma Budden

I look upon the star clad sky
As the winter night seems forlorn.
I gaze upon the bright North Star -
Think of the night when it was born ...

I think about the little babe
That in a stable manger lay.
The Son of God, the Son of Man
Creating hope within a day.

Hope for joy in spite of sorrow;
Hope for sunshine despite the rain;
Hope for brighter days ahead;
Forgiveness granted - much less pain.

I turn my eyes back to the stars
Which twinkle brightly in the night.
I bow my head and heart in prayer
And thank the Lord for bringing Light ...

To a world that was morally wounded
To a world that was on her knees.
To a world that knew no better -
To a people that had been seized ...

And so I think of Christmas season
As one of hope, filled with peace.
A new beginning for all mankind
Where hate and turmoil just may cease.

My Snowman

A Christmas poem by Norma Budden

I love to look at Christmas lights
As I build my snowman in the night.

He takes on a magical glow
Appears all colors - it is so!

I dress him up; he dons a hat.
I stand and say, "Just look at that!"

My snowman faces Christmas lights;
He seems to smile so it's all right.

We hang out - just him and I.
He doesn't talk; he doesn't sigh.

Yet, he always smiles at me
Like a best friend - I'm sure you see.

Christmas Tree

A Christmas poem by Norma Budden

I embrace my Christmas tree;
I love the bulbs, admire the lights.
I get lost in memories
Which often linger through the night.

I think about my childhood days -
Hot chocolate, cookies and cake.
It's only now I realize
Just how much my mom did bake.

I think of playing on snowy ground -
Making angels and throwing snow.
Laughter ringing through the night
'til in the house we had to go.

We'd look at the Christmas tree
Though, it seemed, I watched it more.
All the work our dad had done
Sure made Christmas a time to soar.

And now I have my own family -
Christmas is still a wondrous time.
We bake and cook and have some fun -
Christmas still helps my soul to rhyme.

I still sit and gaze at my Christmas tree
When my children lay fast asleep.
I still love the bulbs, admire the lights -
Still strikes a chord so very deep.

Christmas isn't always a joyous time for people. Sad memories present themselves because of events which have transpired throughout the year; families being torn apart or losing a loved one are only two situations which can bring about a sense of despair at Christmas.

This lens may bring some comfort to you if you find yourself in this category but I must say that, if you have read this far, I'm happy for you because you've just achieved a milestone in your healing process.

May God richly bless you - at Christmas and always!
