Christmas Present Costume

How to make a Christmas Present Halloween Costume

It's as easy as eating figgy pudding to make your own Christmas Present Costume for Halloween (or Christmas parties) (OR BOTH) and best of all it probably won't cost you a dime.

All you'll need is a large empty box and some left-over Christmas wrap to create your own one-of -a-kind Christmas Gift Costume.

I actually made and wore this costume for Halloween one year when I was a child. Unfortunately, no pictures of me wearing my Christmas gift costume exist so you'll just have to take my word for it that it was awesome and I looked great!

This costume can be worn by people of all ages with the exception of toddlers and infants. They already have enough trouble walking around without having a box over their heads to deal with.

Read on for full instructions on how to make a Christmas Present costume. Be sure to read the instructions all the way through before starting this project.

This is NOT how your Christmas Present Costume should look

This is a very poorly made Christmas Present costume but a good example of how to wear a box

Before making your own Christmas present costume you'll need to find an appropriate size box. Look for a box that accentuates your body type. You'll want it to cover your mid-section without interfering with your legs so that you can comfortably walk and it should fit snuggly enough against your body so that it doesn't slop around while you're wearing it.

How to Make a Christmas Present Costume - Step 1

Begin by cutting the bottom off of the box and then measure and cut holes into the box for your head and arms.

This is the most important step so don't mess it up!

View the following video before attempting to cut the holes.

Instructions for cutting arm and head holes

Or How to make a Transformers costume.

This is a great video to watch and learn how to properly cut the arm and head holes for your Christmas Present Costume.

Then again, the Transformers costume shown is awfully cute too! Decisions, decisions...

It's not too late to change your mind. The Christmas Present costume is way easier to make though. Just saying.

How to Make a Christmas Present Costume - Step 2

Wrap the box in Christmas paper.

View the following video if you have trouble wrapping large boxes.

You do not need to wrap the bottom portion where your legs will stick out!

How to make a Christmas Present Costume - Step 3

Using a utility knife, razor blade, box cutter, or sharp scissors, carefully, so as not to cut yourself, remove the wrapping paper from the head and arm holes. This is very important. If you bleed on the wrapping paper you will need to start over!

A utility knife is the safest way to cut your paper and box

Highly recommended!

A utility knife with a new sharp blade is the safest way to cut your box and should also be used to remove the wrapping paper from the arm and head holes on your costume.

How to make a Christmas Present costume - Step 4

Reinforce all edges with packing tape!

In order to keep the wrapping paper from ripping you'll need to use strips of packing tape around all openings, including the entire bottom area where your legs stick out and wherever you attached the wrapping paper.

Do not skip this step or you will most definitely become unwrapped before the end of the evening!

I found a great deal on packing tape

Grab this before they catch their mistake!

This is a fantastic deal on a 6 pack of Scotch packing tape. You won't need this much to make the costume but at this price you should grab it and save the rest for all of your packing and shipping needs.

Decorate your package.

Okay, at first I thought hmm..this could be interesting. Than after I seen it, it was like such a fantastic idea how to go green for Halloween by using left over material. Reuse AND you can actually REUSE again by using the wrapping paper for stocking stuffer wrapping. Lenrolling over to a few of my lens. Good job!
