10 songs that just say 'Christmas' - well, in the UK at least! We hear them all the time in the run-up to Xmas, but for some reason they're still enjoyable. Catchy, ridiculous, silly, sometimes overblown, forget about their overuse in shopping centres and enjoy 10 examples of throwaway festive pop!

from the sublime to the 'cor blimey'?
The music of Christmas runs the whole spectrum from masterpieces of classical music to throwaway 3 minute pop songs.This lens celebrates the throwaway pop of Christmas that for some reason we haven't thrown away. These songs might not be the most artistically brilliant things ever to grace a Yuletide get together but they're part of a shared popular culture. One important aspect of a Christmas pop song is that it says 'Xmas' to anyone hearing it. It might be used to set the scene in a TV prog - or (ad nauseam, sadly) piped over your Christmas shopping. But these are some songs which, we think, keep on being enjoyable listens, however often we hear them.
The list was partly inspired by BBC TV's 'Top of the Pops 2' Christmas specials which have become a fixture of festive TV in recent years.
