Give a Jar You Made Filled with Christmas Spirit

Keeping the Christmas Spirit alive the year 'round is something that many people would like to do. You can make your own Christmas Spirit Jar, often from materials you already have. Fill it with something that embodies Christmas Spirit to you.

You can give it as a unique gift to a friend or keep it as a gift to your self. It is a very simple idea, a way to recycle materials at hand, but it has a very heartfelt meaning.

How to Make a Christmas Spirit Jar

I realized after reading Harlan Miller's quote that it would be easy to create a jar of Christmas Spirit to pass on as a gift to someone.

Here are the directions:
  1. Find a jar or a canister. It is likely that you have a jar around, or you can clean out a food jar for the project.
  2. Decide what you want to use to represent "Christmas Spirit."
      * It might be pieces of paper with Christmas wishes.
      * It might be paper hearts with all the things that you love.
      * It might be filled with sticky notes of things to be grateful for.
      * It might be Christmas Spirit Sprinkles - Salt or Baby Powder mixed with glitter.
      * It might be tags with words that embody the spirit and meaning of Christmas to you.
      * It might be tiny pine cones.
      * It might be Christmas Spices.
      * It might be hot cocoa.
  3. Fill the jar with Christmas Spirit.
  4. Add a label with 'Christmas Spirit.'
You can download and print any of the images that were used to make the Christmas Spirit jars on this page.
  5. Give your jar as a gift or keep it for yourself as a reminder of the Christmas Spirit.
  6. You might want to include the Quote from Harlan Miller or any of the other quotes on this page along with the message:
This jar holds reminders of Christmas Spirit.
Open as needed whenever you want experience a reminder of Christmas Spirit.

10 Steps to Get You in the Christmas Spirit

Christmas is a time of peace, love and goodwill to all, but often all the stress and hassles of the season, many of us end up feeling more like the Grinch rather than the Spirit of Christmas.

Here are some ideas of how to get into the Christmas Spirit.

Modified From: St. Albert Church. December 2006. How to Get into the Christmas Spirit. Saint City Salvationists.
  1. Shop early. Nothing takes away the Christmas spirit like fighting for parking and struggling through crowds.
  2. Wish people that you meet in stores and other casual environments a happy holiday. Say it with a smile.
  3. Place money into the Salvation Army kettles
  4. Do something nice for someone. Offer to baby-sit so a friend can do her Christmas shopping, take cookies to your neighbors, or shovel an elderly neighbor's walk.
  5. Volunteer your time to a worthy holiday cause. Even if you are busy, you can spare an hour or two to help people less fortunate than yourself.
  6. Organize a drive at work or in your neighborhood. Collect food and personal items and donate them to a local shelter for the homeless or for battered women.
  7. Play Christmas music.
  8. Watch Christmas movies. "Elf" , "Santa Clause" is a good one for reviving a flagging Christmas spirit, as is "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."
  9. Read "A Christmas Carol"
  10. Decorate your house for the holidays.
  11. Don't spend more money than you have. Anxiety over after-Christmas bills can ruin your holiday.
  12. Make two Christmas Spirit Jars - one to keep one to give away.

This is a great idea for a Christmas gift. Not every gift must be expensive or somwhoe else measurable in money. It is the message you want to transport with the gift. Thank you for inspiring and welcome to the Christmas decorations group.
