Christmas Villages and Christmas Scenes

Christmas Villages in our home bring out nostalgic memories of Christmas's past.

No one can look at a Christmas Village and wonder what life is life in this winter wonderland.

You take the figurines and buildings and arrange them as you would like your town to be, then you can rearrange as often as you like.

Should the children be building a snowman near the school or maybe on the front yard of one of the homes in the village?

Take a step back in time if only for a few weeks a year.

A Christmas Story Christmas Village House

A Christmas Story reminds me of Christmas when I was growing up. Well I guess "many of us" since there are so many baby boomers. Christmas may have seemed simpler in those days, but Ralphie can tell you they were just as much fun.

Here you can have a recreation of the houses that are in the movie "A Christmas Story". Although only a few are shown here, there are many more available. Just click on any of of the "A Christmas Story" Christmas Village houses and you'll be able to see the full collection.
On this section you'll find my most favorites ones like Ralphies House, The Chop Suey Palace & Higbee Department Store, but your favorites may be different.

Christmas Carnival Villages and Buildings From Lemax

Lemax take us back to our youth and days that the carnival came to town. Or if you are like me and was lucky enough to live near Coney Island, it reminds me of summertime at the beach and all the rides that we use to love.

Lemax Carnival Sights & Sounds will take you take in time and children will love the carnival atmosphere that each of these (and there are more ) add to the holiday festivities.

What's especially nice about these are that not only are they great at Christmas time but you can also have them out during other times of the year - giving you extra value for your village.

Gold Label World's Fair Villages

The Gold Label Worlds Fair Miniature Villages could also be seen as summer carnival rides.
Who doesn't remember the fun of riding the Carousel with all of it's music and mystical creatures or the excitement of the Roller Coaster.?
Maybe rides over the year may have become scarier but none are more enjoyable than those in days gone by.

Christmas Village Houses

Always remember to have fun when creating your Christmas scenes.
Move houses and accessories around and don't be afraid to mix and match styles and themes. It's your fantasy. If you like a particular House, building or accessory but it doesn't quite match the set you currently have - who cares - it's your fantasy land.

Ralphies house from "A Christmas Story" could be placed near a Carnival ride or Scrooge's house.
At one time it was expected to always keep within the same manufacturer and the same theme, but as the collections grew more and more popular, many different want to stick to just one theme, they wanted to add whatever they though reminded them of their past or places they always wanted to visit.

For example: With our Christmas scene set up we pretty much stayed with "A Christmas Story" theme, but then my Mom passed away and I remember how much she loved taking us to Coney Island and the year they she spent in Paris as a child. So in addition to our small scene from "A Christmas Story" we have added a few carnival & World's Fair pieces and although I could not find an Eiffel Tower that was part of a Christmas Village, I did find an Eiffel Tower statue that was about the right size and have it about 2 feet away, so it looks as though it's off in the distance with the carnival rides.

At night when the house is dark and quiet, I enjoy lighting all the buildings and street lamps and it brings me back to when I was a child - your scene should give you the same sweet memories.
It may sound silly to some collectors, but to me each piece represents a part of my life and memories & I could not be happier sitting and thinking about the past.

Even if you decide that you don't have room for a full Christmas scene you can always place some Christmas garland or miniature Christmas lights around a few figurines and create a small wonderland.
If you want to add to the wintery feeling place the figurines and accessories on artificial snow or on a mirror. To make the mirror look like a frozen pond, just place some artificial snow on the edges or you can also lightly spray the mirror with canned snow or a canned spray that is used for flocking a tree.
It's an inexpensive way to add more dimension and interest to your display.

I haven't put my Dickens Christmas village up in years, but this makes me want to get back to it. Lovely lens.

I've always been enchanted with small Christmas villages especially these old, sort of paper mache houses that were passed down from mother-in-law. They're the smallest little village set and we love to set them up with cotton fluff as snow and put a little ice skating rink nearby. So much fun!

I remember the Christmas village that my grandmother displayed. We still have some of the tiny houses. Very special!

I have always been fascinated by Christmas villages. All miniaturization and details boggles my mind. I know a friend who has an extensive collection in a custom-made curio cabinet that lights up all the villages. It was just WOW! Great lens.
