Putting the pieces together

The things you will need to make a wreath.
1. Balsam Tips
2. Wire ring
3. Spool of 23 gauge wire

Start by breaking the tips into equal sized pieces and sort them into 24 sets so you can not see through the
sets (hands). Pick a starting point on the ring and tie on your wire. Tie on the fist hand by laying the first hand of tips in line with the ring, and pull the wire around the ring and the hand of balsam. Wrap the wire at the break in the tips and work up the balsam hand about 2 inches. Next, flip the ring so the tied hand is now facing downward and add another hand that is moved about 1 inch and continue wrapping from the break in the tips up the hand. Do this moving around the ring, keeping an eye on the outer edge, making sure the tips a set at an even distance from the ring. Finally, finish by tucking in the last hands and wrapping under the first set of balsam tips. Now you should have an even double sided wreath. You can buy blank Christmas Wreaths here.

Caring for your wreath

A balsam fir Christmas Wreath is a living thing that must be kept moist and cool. The key to making a long lasting wreath starts with the fresh materials. To ensure fresh tips, the time of year needs to be taken into consideration. As the days get shorter and colder the trees set their needles which is an important factor in making a wreath that will hold up throughout a season. Keeping a wreath from drying out is as simple as using a spray bottle of water and plenty of shade. Since the season is during the colder months with shorter days, well-made wreaths will last several weeks, although warmer climates will shorten the life span of a fresh wreath, using a spray bottle will defiantly help.

Single sided Christmas Wreaths

A single sided Christmas wreath is different than the standard double sided hand wound wreath. It uses a different ring and a crimping tool. It is quit easy to use crimp rings, but requires a special tool.
You will need these items:
Crimp ring
Crimping tool
Balsam Tips
First break your tips into 8" pieces and sort into what we call hands. You will need 12 - 24 hands and they should be stacked so you can just barely see through them. When you over lap the hands on the ring, you will get a nice evenly distrbuted ring of balsam. Place each hand in the crimp u shaped location and use the tool to crimp each hand into position. Do this process over and over to make a completed wreath that is ready for decoration. That's it. A very simple and easy.way to make a Christmas wreath.
