There was alot of hurdles to Jump on Christmas Morning
Our Christmas tree never went up until Christmas eve. We would always pester our mother about putting up the tree, but we were informed that this was actually one of Santa's and his elves tasks. They were supposed to put up the Christmas tree and put the presents underneath when they were finished. My sister and I, one evening marveled at how our mother and father were able to put up, and decorate the tree and put the presents underneath in one night - a feat any ninja would be proud of I'm sure!
Christmas morning for us was different, our father and mother made sure that a strict protocol was followed. The three of us children would be waiting for our father's wake up call on Christmas morning. It didn't take much to get us up and out of bed on Christmas morning. I was usually fully dressed and at the door and ready to bounce down the stairs with my chores done as soon as I heard my father calling us. I would be out the door in no time. I was usually the first one downstairs, and I would arrive at the living room door only to be stopped in my tracks by my mother who was pointing to the kitchen.
My father had prepared a wholesome breakfast for all of us. It contained all the great ingredients that every Doctor will pooh-pooh - bacon, eggs, pancakes, and homemade hash browns. He also made a homemade egg nog, which would appall most dieticians or nutritionists - it was made with unpasteurized milk from a local farmer and raw uncooked eggs. I loved this homemade egg nog recipe, and one glass would usually fill me up. We would eat our breakfast and drink our egg nog as quickly as possible, only to be informed that we could open our presents once the dishes were done.
Talk about whining and wailing - the anticipation of opening the presents was killing us! After much knashing of teeth- this was tortuous for us kids. We would announce that all of the dishes were done. Our mother would come in and check and make sure that everything was in order. If she found anything not to her liking, we had to rectify it. If our parents were satisfied that everything was acceptable, we were let into the treasure room to open our presents.
It was usually three hours before we were allowed to start opening our presents. I laugh when I think about this instant gratification generation waiting that long before they could open their presents.

40,000 Lights! Can you Imagine the Electric Bill!
That's right 40,000 Lights. I wonder what the Neighbors say?
I remember when I went Christmas tree hunting with my Dad. We would walk for hours, but it was fun. My Dad and me looking for a Christmas tree, it was like some rites of passage. It wasn't my dad and my sisters looking for the tree, it was something that only my dad and I could do together. My dad and I would also string the lights around the house and onto the tree in the front yard - but it was never 40,000 lights. What an amazing way to decorate the house. My father would often take us around the town on our Sunday drives so that we could see all the decorated houses it was so nice, we loved it. I would have loved to see this house with its 40,000 lights, all in sync Check it out!If you are looking for some great Christmas Lights check out my Estore.

Was there a Metaphysical reason for Christmas
There is more to the meaning to the Christmas tree
Is the tree the sign for the triumph of Life over Death The Egyptians would fill their homes with green palm rushes when someone was ill.
The Romans would decorate their homes homes with green palm rushes when someone was ill.
The Romans would decorate their homes and temples with evergreen boughs in honor of Saturn, the god of agriculture. This symbolized the orchards would be green and fruitful.
The Druids would also decorate their temples with evergreen boughs as a symbol of everlasting life
The Vikings thought that evergreens were the special plant of the sun god Balder. The word "Yule" is a Norse word for "rol", the Gothic word "hiul" or Saxon word "hweol" which refers to the cycle of the sun.
Have you ever heard the term "Bringing in the Yule Log"? This was a ritual that began in Great Britian over one thousand years ago and spread throughout Europe, and was brought over by the settlers. On Christmas Eve, the task consisted of finding a large trunk of a great tree, that was then dragged by the family to their homes and thrown on to the fire.
As with many traditions, this one had it's fair share. For example the log had to be ignited the first time a flame was put to it or the family would be faced with bad luck and other superstitions would develop around it.
While many traditions about the Yule Log spread throughout Europe, the most interesting one is in Spain. The children followed the log as it was dragged through the village, beating it with sticks to drive out the evil spirits, they were rewarded with gifts of nuts and chocolates by people who lived along the way.
The only thing that reminds us of the burning Yule but some memories of it remain. The French of course, cook a beautiful round chocolate roll covered with a dark brown frosting that looks just like bark.

Our parents must have been related. They did exactly the same thing: we kids couldn't leave our rooms until called, we had to eat a big, full breakfast, we KIDS had to wash, dry, and put away the dishes and clean up the kitchen, and finally, FINALLY, we were allowed in to the big living room where everything was sparkly and wondrous and waiting.
