Welcome to Christmas Stocking Traditions

When I was a child I remember my siblings and I would get so excited about hanging up our christmas stockings. I can still remember the excitement over finding the lumpy, bulging, treat filled socks. This was one of the many highlights of christmas morning for us. I remember us digging through dads sock drawer to find the perfect sock to use. Usually it was one of my dads stretchy dress socks. I loved finding the mandarin orange in the toe of the sock!

Since married with kids my husband and I have carried on this tradition with our 3 boys. The only difference is our boys use store bought stockings or ones that had been made for them. These are somewhat larger than 'dads' socks! Our guys are now 17 to 21 years of age and they still love this christmas tradition. They don't get up quite as early to open the stockings like they did when they were younger but they still enjoy the experience. It's great having all of them sit together on Christmas morning to open their stockings! Great memory makers!

I will share some fun and traditional stockings in this lens. Also some great stocking stuffer ideas for guys and girls. I hope this lens will inspire you and make you smile!

Countdown to Christmas

Christmas Stocking Traditions

You Don't Even Need A Fireplace

Just have the kids stake out a special place to lay their stocking down. Just placing them on the back of the couch or loveseat works just fine!

Don't Forget the Treats for the Stockings

No stocking would be complete with out the edible treats! Here is a list of some of the things my boys like in their stockings!

Terry's Chocolate Orange ( They love to smack them open) and delicious too!
Mandarin Orange ( always in the toe of the sock)
Jelly candies
Chocolate Coins
Chocolate Bells
Package of Sugarfree Gum
I usually include a few fruit leather sticks ( a little healthier)
Candy Cane (poking out the top of course) Candy canes come in many flavours now so if your kids don't like the traditional ones there are many choices.
I also sometimes put in a bottle of chocolate or strawberry milk. My guys love this! (I get up before the boys to add this as it should be in the refrigerator over night!)

Cute Story...

When my youngest son was almost 2 yrs. old he was so cute and expressive opening his christmas stocking. He would ooh and awe as he pulled things out of his stocking. As he reached in and pulled out a rubber alligator( it was a cute one, as far as alligators go) he jumped out of his skin and got a horrible look on his face. He just kind of moved it out of the way by the tail. He kept stareing at it! His big brothers came to his aid and told him "it's okay, Bubba, it won't hurt you!" "It's just a toy, see!" (Bubba was a nickname one of his brothers gave him) It was a fun christmas memory, we still have a laugh about it! We have it all on video, too bad I don't have an actual picture to share but you get the idea!

Magnets are cute stocking stuffers or gift toppers too!
