Christmas Weddings are increasing in popularity

Traditionally when you think of weddings you imagine of a glorious summer day, guests congregating outside of the wedding venue waiting for the happy couple to arrive. But over recent years many couples have favoured a Christmas wedding whether in the UK or somewhere with guaranteed snow like Lapland. Getting married out of the traditional wedding season results in reduced costs meaning you should get more for your money.

Christmas Wedding Themes - Elements

Wedding themes can be broken down into different elements, the wedding stationery, the wedding venue decoration, wedding clothes and accessories, food, entertainment, wedding favours, bridal party gifts - the list is endless.

Creating a Christmas Wedding Theme

The easiest way to create a Christmas Wedding Theme is to sit down and think about what reminds you about Christmas. For me Christmas is about sitting in front of a log fire with hot chocolate while the snow flutters to the ground outside. It's about the frost and the ice that covers everything, making it glitter and the bare trees covered in twinkling fairy lights.

When you think of Christmas what are the first things that come to mind? Make a list with your partner, this will be your starting point for your Christmas wedding.

Get Organised

Either get yourself a ring binder to collect all the information you can find or set up folders on your computer to help you keep track of everything while planning for your wedding

Christmas Wedding Invitations and Wedding Stationery

Wedding invitations give your guests the first glimpse of your wedding so it is where your guests discover the theme of your wedding.

Cool colours such as crisp whites, light blues, pale yellows are perfect for Christmas weddings. While white wedding invitations may sound boring, white card comes in a variety of textures such as linen and silk giving the invitation depth. Transparent glitter or iridescent snow flakes add to the perception of the coldness of the holiday.

Below are a few ideas for Christmas Wedding Invitations.

Get Yourself a Calendar

Make sure you keep track of when things should be paid for by writing them in a calendar and sticking it to your fridge.

Christmas Wedding Decorations

One of the major influences on whether your Christmas Themed Wedding will be a success is your wedding decorations. Don't just think about your reception venue but where the ceremony will be held as well.

Church or Ceremony Decorations

With a little time it is easy to create a perfect Christmas Wedding atmosphere at your wedding ceremony venue. Dried willow or hazel twigs can easily be transformed in to works of art for defining the aisle. Spray the twigs with glue and sprinkle with glitter, tie them to the pew ends with white or silver sparkling ribbon to give the effect of walking though frosted trees.

Christmas baubles tied to pew ends with matching ribbon make very effective and cheap pew decorations.

Don't forget that your order of service should match your wedding invitations and can continue the Christmas Wedding theme.

Keep to your Wedding Budget

It's so easy to over spend for your wedding, take a look around the internet so you have some idea of what things cost and decide on a wedding budget, then stick to it!!

The Wedding Reception Venue

If your wedding budget allows, pick a reception venue that is steeped in history such as a stately home, with open fires and gardens to look out on. Chances are that these gardens will be covered in frost meaning your guests will enjoy being warm while looking out onto the glimmering frosted lawns and trees in the formal gardens.

You'll also find that these types of venues tend to have magnificently decorated Christmas trees, so your guests will receive that gorgeous smell of pine as they enter the venue.

Decorate fire places with crystal garlands with candles in your chosen wedding colours. After all Christmas is about over indulgence and luxury.

Drinks on Arrival

Remember your guests have probably been waiting outside for your arrival or have been having their photos taken against a scenic backdrop so they are likely to be cold. Warm them up with mulled wine or mugs of hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. Stay away from cold drinks such as Champaign and Bucksfizz, they will be cold enough as it is.

Christmas Wedding Breakfast

Obivously roast turkey will all the trimmings would be the clear choice, but that's very predictable and if you're any thing like me, Christmas dinner should be saved for Christmas day. So if you don't fancy the traditional Christmas dinner then think about warm comforting foods such as hotpots, bangers and mash. Ask yourself this question, on a cold winters day what it is that you like to eat to make you feel all warm inside.

Ensure Your Guests are Entertained

Your wedding is of course about you but you need to keep your guests happy, so while you're having your photos taken ensure your guests have something that will keep them amused.

Wedding Dress and Accessories

If you're planning a Christmas Wedding then an obvious choice for the bride is to be a ice queen for the day, a subtle shimmering wedding dress with a heavy cloak created from material such as velvet, and accessories which have a strong icy theme such as the Clare Bridal Tiara with it's pointed crystals would be perfect. Your bridal bouquet should include red berries and holly leaves or you could go for a crystal bouquet which could mirror the effect of icicles. You can find crystal wedding bouquets and button holes on ebay.

Enjoy Yourself

Your wedding day should only happen the once so make sure it's everything you want to it be and remember the guests are there to celebrate your wedding day so have your wedding your way.
