Christmas books are great gifts for the holidays. Reading Christmas stories is a wonderful way to get in the Christmas spirit and create your own family's Christmas traditions. On Christmas Eve the Polar Express comes to take some special children to the North Pole to meet Santa and his elves. The train ride is an adventure and the boy gets to receive the first gift of Christmas. The silver sleigh bell he receives from Santa can only be heard by those who believe.

This wonderful book received the Caldecott Medal for children's literature and has been made into an animated feature film of the same name. The movie is a Christmas classic and reading The Polar Express is also a Christmas favorite tradition for many children.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. SeussHow the Grinch Stole Christmas was written and illustrated by Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss) in 1957. This classic children's story book is a favorite with children at Christmas time. In 1966 the story was adapted for an animated feature by Chuck Jones and narrated by Boris Karloff. The story is about the Grinch whose heart is two sizes too small who lives on Mount Crumpit high above the town of Whoville. The Whos of Whoville love Christmas but the Grinch is determined to ruin their Christmas. He steals all their gifts and decorations and even the roast beast.

The Elf on the Shelf book with elf dollThe Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition was written by Carol V. Aebersold and Chanda A. Bell, and illustrated by Coƫ Steinwart in 2005. The tradition begins with Thanksgiving Day when Santa sends one of his elves to your house to find out whether the children are being naughty or nice. Each night the elf disappears to go back to Santa's workshop and report to Santa. Each morning parents can place the elf in a new spot for the children to find.

The Night Before Christmas by Clement Clarke Moore

The Night Before ChristmasThe Night Before Christmas is generally attributed to having been written by Clement Clarke Moore. The poem first appeared in the Sentinel of Troy, New York on December 23, 1823. It is sometimes referred to as A Visit from St. Nicholas or Twas the Night Before Christmas, the words of the poem's opening line.
