Christmas Cookie Cutters

Christmas Cookie Cutters Can Make Holiday Memories!

Christmas cookie cutters can be found in most kitchens. Today you can find a wide variety of shapes, including boxed sets of many assorted shapes.

I have fond childhood memories of cutting out Christmas cookies, watching them bake, and then getting to sprinkle colored sugar on top of them during the holidays. Then came the best part...eating them!

Some of these cutters are similar to the ones I used as a child, and I have also added some new favorites.

Don't forget to share your memories and comments below and sign my guestbook!

Basic Roll-out Cookie Dough Recipe

For those who like to make cookies from scratch

Ingredients:
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract*
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder

*This is a basic recipe, and you can experiment with other flavors of extract instead of almond. Try substituting coconut, lemon, or another favorite flavoring.

Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Cream butter and sugar together in mixing bowl. Add egg, vanilla extract, and other extract of choice. Combine baking powder and flour, and then gradually mix this together with creamed mixture in bowl. At this point the dough will be very stiff. Do not chill. Roll out dough onto a lightly floured surface to about 1/8th inch thick. Cut cookies into desired shapes and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake at 400 degrees F. for 6 or 7 minutes or until edges are slightly brown. Cool on pan for a couple of minutes before moving to wire racks and let cool completely before decorating.
