Christmas Villages

Each year as the Christmas season neared, I remember my Mom setting up her prized Christmas Village. As a kid, I remember spending a good amount of time, fascinated by its intricate details and little lights. Of course, my sister and I had to keep a safe distance, as the village included pieces passed down from my Grandmother. I could not imagine a Christmas holiday season without a Christmas Village adorning the corner of the living room.

It is pretty easy to find Christmas villages out there. Prices vary from a few dollars to hundred's of dollars. Depending on your taste, you are able to set up villages based on different themes as well. The range in variety and quality of Christmas villages is vast and what I have tried to do here is give you some options that I feel are great choices.

I know my Mom's Christmas village was very valuable to her - not just from a monetary sense. She did see the value in spending a llittle more to get the details good quality Christmas Village buildings, characters or pieces provided.

If this is your first experience with a Christmas village or if you are looking to add to what you already have, then check out some of the offerings below.

Christmas Village Tips

Here is a collection of great ideas and suggestions to consider when designing your Christmas Village.

1. To create hills, cover small boxes or blocks of wood over with a fluffy white fabric.

2. Powering your Village - Setting up your Christmas village is time consuming, so plan ahead and make sure you have easy access to power outlets. Once it is set up, do you really want to move everything?

3. Considering your Christmas Village has been stored for the year (or more), clean each piece of dust BEFORE setting up.

4. Find a small mirror to place in your village, and you have an instant frozen pond.

5. Create extra excitement and animation by adding a miniature train set to your Christmas village.

6. Always think safety - keep your valuable Christmas village out of reach of little ones.

7. Avoid clutter - too much in your display is going to look like too much. Choose your pieces wisely.

8. Avoid straight lines. Create a unique look by placing pieces at different angles, some building might even be sideways. This will create a pleasing sight for the eyes and lessen the boredom of straight lines of houses.
