Acer AC700-1090 Chromebook (3G)
Amazon Price: (as of 05/30/2012)![]()
This 3G Acer model has a dual core processor. Now normally a dual core processor is quick and can process more than a single core but many people are now opting for a quad core processor since they have so many programs running at once. However, you have to remember that with a Chromebook you don't have any additional programs running in the background so a dual core processor is more than enough.
There is 2 GB of DDR3 memory ( not enough for a standard laptop but perfect for a Chromebook)
In addition to 3G capabilities you also have 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi so you can easily connect to your home network or use a hot spot.
There is an HD webcam and dual speakers. If you are really into videos you may want to shell out a few extra dollars for additional USB speakers to add depth and volume. There are 2 USB ports ( which are 2.0) and also one HDMI port.
The keyboard is a Chrome OS Keyboard which has hot keys and a layout which is geared towards browsing and using applications and a fairly large touch pad. While some people like the larger touchpad and few have mentioned that they find that they often rest their wrists on it and can interfere with what they are doing. So just be aware of this and you'll be fine.
Similar to netbooks, the battery life is about 8 hours, so you can stay unplugged for most of the day or night.

But How Fast Can You Go From Booting Up To Being on The Web?
Pro or Con?
Depending on how you look at it.
By having to log in with your Google ID could either be a good thing or a bad thing.
If you don't want all of your accounts, bookmarks and apps in one location it would be a big drawback to using a Chromebook and they would not be right for you.
However, if you like the simplicity and ease of having it all in one spot then a Chromebook would be a perfect choice.
With Chromebook You Sign In With Your Google ID
Does it bother you to use a log in to have all of your apps and setting in one place?

Having it all in one place makes it easier for me to....

I like the idea that everything is stored on the cloud. I already have a Google Account and use it to sync my bookmarks, apps, and settings with the Chrome browser, so transitioning to a Chromebook will be easy for me. Right now my laptop feels like it's part of the process when it comes to accessing the internet, but I had really rather it just be the gateway like the Chromebooks will be.
My Google Account is very secure. I have a rather lengthy password comprised of random numbers, letters, and symbols, and with Google's new 2-step verification process, it has put it into further lock down. Chrome is also the most secure browser out there. Google had actually placed a large sum of money on the line to prove this. They offered thousands of dollars to anyone who could find a security flaw in the browser, and they walked away with no takers. I am confident that all of my information will be safe with this new technology.
I like keeping everything seperate so that....

Since I prefer a bit more privacy, I don't have a Gmail account, I don't use a Google ID, my privacy setting for Facebook and other social sites are set fairly high so yes I wouldn't feel comfortable using one ID for all.
Now on the other side of the coin, I was thinknig on creating an new unique ID to be able to use just for when I use a Chromebook. On the book I will only do certain activities and when I want something to be private I'll use my PC or laptop.
My family uses many of the social sites and have a lower need for security so they tell me that they have no qualms about having everything connected so that they have go seamlessly from one app to another.
Since you don't need to know anything about computers and programs, a Chromebook is perfect for people who are unsure about computers but do want to go on to the internet to be able to get email, share family photos and videos, play games, visit sites like Facebook, Twitter, Hulu, YouTube & more
