How can I prevent migraines without drugs

I am a headache and a migraine sufferer.

One day I asked myself How can I prevent migraines without drugs. Well If you are looking for fast migraine headache relief, you have come to the wrong place. Your migraines need to be managed without the use of drugs or they will get worse.

I have deliberately mentioned migraine and headache separately because many people use them interchangeably. Of course those of us who have been through it know that a normal headache, no matter how severe, is not necessarily a migraine.

There are many different kinds of headaches, and I have compiled a few ideas that I have used to make my headaches and migraines more tolerable.

What are the types of Headaches

First, you need to identify the enemy!

Tension Headache:

Easily the most common headache and the most treatable. Feels like a band of pain across your forehead.

Cluster Headache:

More common in men than women. Feels like a piercing pain in the temples. Might only last for a bout 20 minutes then goes away. Usually comes in "clusters" of three or four.

Hangover:

One of my personal favorites. The pain and cause should be easily recognizable and preventable. However, for those who fail to prevent it, the best treatment for me was to get out of bed, eat something even if it was just a bite, take the most powerful pain reliever I could find, and go back to sleep. Try it!

Migraine:

My personal favorite. This one feels like your eye is being poked out with a fork. There are several factors that are thought to be contributors but the list is too long to possibly mention all of them: Lack of sleep, lack of regular sleep, nuts, seeds, old cheese, the smell of soap, the list goes on.
There is a book called "heal your headache" that you should read. You will find it in the Amazon section.

How headaches start

a little of my story

My headaches started at about 20 years of age. I had some pain almost every day. I tried different pain relievers but absolutely nothing worked. Then a miracle happened. I had a series of surgeries.
As with any surgery, I required the use of tylenol 3 to make the pain go away. I also noticed that the pain of my headaches went away too.
I ran out of tylenol 3 but I still had my surgical pain, I went to the pharmacy but of course, they couldn't supply me with anymore tylenol 3. The pharmacist suggested tylenol 1. It had the same ingredients as tylenol 3 but was less potent.

The problem is that your body comes to expect the drugs. Like any other drug, you come to depend on it. Codeine is an opiate just like a lot of illicit drugs.

So when I tried to stop taking them for my headaches, I endure two weeks of searing headache pain. I couldn't go to work, I couldn't play with my kids, I cried from the pain.

Thats when I knew that I had been drug addicted, and I was even more determined to see the pain through and ensure that I never got to that point again.

The Most Important Thing

Trying to quit using pain relievers can be as painful as trying to give up any drug. Please try not to start.

Stress relief has been the most important factor for me.

Headache Food Triggers
