In 1908, the "Converse Rubber Company" was founded by Marquis Converse. Nine years later (in 1917) the Converse company created and released a shoe that is much like today's "All Star" shoe.

In 1921, basketball player Chuck Taylor was hired by the Converse company as a salesman. Over the next couple of years, Chuck Taylor suggested and had implemented changes to the shoe, and in 1923 his signature was added to the famous label of the shoes we see today.

Chuck Taylor was known as a very likable personality and was quite famous in the basketball world as someone who "knew everybody". He also conducted basketball clinics where he provided training for athletes.

There have been many changes take place since that time with the All Stars shoe - In the '60's a demand for more colors (to match uniforms) spurred on the creation of Chuck Taylor All Star shoes in many different colors. The "Ox" (Oxford) was also created in this era, and the production of All Star shoes in several different types of materials.

The Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars shoes are the most successful shoes in history. By the year 2000, over 750 million pairs had been sold and continue to rise in popularity. Although they have been replaced by more technologically advanced shoes for professional basketball, they are some of the most popular shoes among casual footwear lovers.

There is something to know about sizing for the Chuck Taylor shoes before making a first purchase.
