Chuggington Train Set - All Around Chuggington

Chuggington is an adorable animated show aimed at preschoolers and young children. The show began life as a British cartoon on the BBC's CBeebies channel. but has also been adapted for the USA audience with new American voice-overs.

The show is set in the fictional world of Chuggington, where trains, called "chuggers", are alive and can talk and interact with humans. The train characters are based on every kind of engine, from old stream engines and trolleys to diesel locomotives and electric bullet trains.

The show focuses on three main characters who are Chuggington trainees. They are a red engine named Wilson, a blue freight train named Brewster, and a speedy girl train named Koko. Each episode follows them as they learn the ropes as a professional chugger. There is also a short, five-minute spin-off called Chuggington Badge Quest, where the trainees have to complete a task to achieve one of their special badges.

The train set itself gets mixed reviews. For every happy parent and excited child, there is another parent complaining that the set is poorly constructed and that the tracks come apart too easily. While the interactive engines and accessories are praised, it seems some people are having problems with the flimsy track itself.

So what is the truth about the All Around Chuggington train set? A quick check of other toy train sets available on Amazon throws up many of the same problems, all complaining of flimsy track that comes apart at the slightest touch. It seems that this is a problem of modern plastic toy train tracks.

I have seen the Chuggington set in action myself and my friend's children love it. They have had no problem at all with the track, so whether there was a problem with earlier editions that has now been fixed, who knows? The set that they have stays together and can take the weight of the trains on the elevated tracks no problem. There is the occasional time when a train comes off the rails or something doesn't work quite right, but I have found this to be the case with almost every single toy of this type!

Bear in mind also that it is intended to be for ages 3 and up, so if you have a 2 year old who is a little over enthusiastic with it, bear in mind the set was not designed for under 36 months!

All in all, I think this is a superb toy for Chuggington fans. My daughter absolutely loves the show so when she is old enough, this is definitely a Christmas purchase we will be making (being as we love the show too and both love train sets!). Because there are lots of additional trains and sets, a great idea to make the collecting the whole set more affordable is to get friends and relatives to buy an accessory or train each, that way, you can build the whole of Chuggington!
