There are many different sorts of cider available, including the ones that you probably drunk when you were younger, and might have been your first taste of alcohol. Nowadays cider isn't just drunk by youg drinkers, and is a popular choice for many people. Cider is drunk predominantly in the UK, and unsurprisingly the UK produces the most cider in the world. Other countries such as those in Europe, North America and Scandanavia are keen consumers of cider, but they don't consume as much as the UK.

In the same way that there are different types of beer or wine, there are different types of cider too. Cider can be made from apples or pears, and is classed as either sweet, medium or dry. Different ciders are also different colour. The colours usually range from orange to brown.

Because of the low duty on cider, it is relatively cheap for a large amount. This is often why it is popular with younger drinkers. Thanks to cider producers taking Responsible Drinking seriously, most companies have stopped producing 3 litre bottles, and some are even withdrawing from the budget end of the market.

Whilst sales of the cheap strong ciders fell as a result of the withdrawl of the large bottles, sales of other brands and types of cider have increased, as people started drinking cider as a drink in itself.

Cider has followed beer to some extent, in that there are now premium cider brands in the same way that there are some premium beers and lagers. Thanks to extensive advertising campaigns, ciders are becoming fashionable again, and are attracting new customers all the time, and especially in summer.
