A few months ago I took a chance and bought a cigar sampler from Thompson Cigar online. I was a little weary as I didn't know what the quality of the cigars would be, and I didn't want to end up with 16 cigars I didn't want. But it turns out my fears were unfounded, and it was an absolutely great decision.
While I will always have a few cigars that I love and will always keep in stock (Macanudo Majesty and of course, Cohiba Siglo III), I love trying new cigars and watching for that wonderful surprise of a new, unexpected favorite. Buying a sampler was a great way to expand my horizons, find some new favorites, and save a few dollars at the same time. Now, I've spent more on a single Cohiba then I did for the entire sampler, but honestly, the quality was astounding. I was very pleased, and it turns out, I love the ToraƱo and it's bullet shape, as well as the Wall Street. I'm definitely a romantic, and the Wall Street just gave me a bit of flair as I sat on my veranda and thought of barking out orders to SELL SELL SELL, while chewing the end of a big, thick cigar.
I've tried several of the samplers at Thompson, but I think the Supreme XVI collection is the best value. And while I'm not a big fan of free gifts (I just want the good products that I'm buying, not cheap incentives), I've found the cigars to be great, and the free travel case to be actually useful. It also comes with a hat, which I don't wear due to the fact that I never wear hats.
I hope you take my advice and try a sampler, it's a great way to find some new favorites, or merely keep a good stock on hand without breaking the bank. (It's also my secret to introducing friends to cigars without watching them waste a $13 smoke when they realize that 8 minutes into it, they're already queasy. With the sampler cigars, I'm not offended, while still offering a quality cigar.)
Take my poll below and tell me what you think of cigar samplers, please.
